hey guys........ so 2 guys on my floor want me and my friend to train them, and this is the upper/lower split i came up with for him..

Lemme know what you think- he didn't really want to do rippetoes, and in the beginning staying interested is everything (imo) so we made it based on what he likes.

4 day a week upper/lower split like mine (but a few less exercises each day) for a beginner.

Upper Body
  • BB Bench Press
  • DB Row
  • Incline DB Press
  • Front/Lateral Raises
  • Biceps

Lower Body
  • Deadlift
  • DB Lunges
  • Leg Curls
  • Hyperextensions
  • Calves

Upper Body
  • Military press
  • Barbell Row
  • DB Bench
  • Lat Pulldowns
  • Triceps

Lower Body
  • Squat
  • Romanian Deadlift
  • Leg Extensions/Press
  • Calves

It looks fine to me. I just would of replaced the barbell rows with some pullups or chinups in the 2nd upper body day and i would add some dips in there. Also i wouldnt do too many sets for each exercises

I would put them on the routine from the sticky "The Ultimate Training Split" and see how they got on with it...

thanks for the recommendations guys.....

he can barely do assisted pullups at the moment, which is why i thought barbell rows might be a better option.

Have him do negative reps with pull ups, nothing beats working on pulling your own body weight. Rows won't improve his pull ups, I can guarentee this. Moving ones body through space is completely different then picking up a weight and moving that.

what's funny is i actually did this the other day and he wasn't able to get himself up, even after i told him to jump. I can't make a platform for him to start at with this pullup bar, so he has to jump up, which he can't do.

why not just do a split if all he is training for is looks
