I'm on a pre contest diet at the moment and I have definite goals and timelines but am really struggling with giving into cravings! My willpower is dwindling ...How do you guys get through these times?

I think my downfall is my hormones - as per previous thread I'm over 2 weeks late but having all the symptoms.

Heyelp!! I'm in danger of blowing my targets

Annie, substitute simple sugars with sweet potato, butternut squash and other sweet vegetables. Not all at once..lol! Also, in your cheat meals you can have Mejdool dates and other natural sugars. Beware, however dates have 18g carbs per date; so be careful and count everything. The more you fall into temptation, the more you crave it. As you already know, sugar is highly addictive, therefore you have to get your taste bud to not crave it.

Annie72, I hear you!! I am gearing for a competition...... and I am sooo hungry and have cravings I didn't.. I sometimes drink diet pop or take crystal light... when I am about to go bonkers! :)

Chrystal light or any substitute sugar will make you crave more sugar and will slow down you fat burning process.

thanks, I guess I will cut that out too :( hahahaha. I have to admit I rarely do it. Maybe 1 every 2 weeks.

Well I am just doing weight loss but I curb my sweet craving with a cup of watermelon... it's 11g carbs, 9g sugar ... and it works for me. And definitely an improvement over running to a vending machine and eating processed food.

Thank god someone thought to post a thread about this, because I get way too many cravings for my own good for chocolates and, my favorite, skittles! lol! I hope many people post up what they eat/drink to curve those cravings! I'll have to try the watermelon and see how well it does for me.

I use cocoa powder and cacao nibs through my entire prep.

One of my fav comp 'cheats' is cacao nibs with goji berries, or stuff a date with some cacao nibs.

Cocoa powder in hot water with cinnamon and/or natural vanilla extract with some stevia is also a great cheat.

I have also mixed whey protein really thick (choc) and eaten it like pudding.

I still do these in set amounts so the calories fit into my diet.

I was ripped year round until I started drinking Crystal light.
I have it at work once in a while. Now I water it down even farther.
When I am kicking ass with my diet it is only water and green tea!

I still don't understand this. Other than making your crave sugar, how does the crystal light pose a problem?

Because you're adding LOTS of chemicals to your system, which is counter productive if you want to stay healthy. Please read the sticky "Healthy Shopping Guide. Non-GMO.

32g ANPB + 1 scoop chocolate whey...mix well( you might need to add a few drops of h20) but in a baggie and smash flat. Freeze
Taste like a peanutbutter cup
AND~ you only need a small piece to hit the spot.

I think I'm the only stevia booster here. I LOVE the stuff. Stevita brand spoonable stevia in the 1lb jar is awesome.

Oh I totally understand it from that perspective. I have a bad habit of putting stupid chemicals and toxins in my body. Something I am definitely working on. I was talking more about how it can keep someone from dropping body fat. Artificial sweeteners and crystal light are my last things that I have to use my will power to get rid of. One day.

I forgot to answer the original question...

A spoon of the all natural peanut butter from Costco goes a long way for me in fighting a sugar craving...

Also a cigarette...

Also my favorite:

1/2 cup oats
+
all the whey chocolate whey isolate
+
Protein Factory Omega Muscle EFA Powder or 1.5tbspns all natural peanut butter
