How Cute is My Husband on Injectible Test!!!

njmuscleguy said:
MM, when you say your husband didn't do well on the cream, was it that his levels didn't improve? How long was he on the cream before switching?

I just saw an endo this morning for the first time... my natty test levels have always been low, so I'm about to take the plunge... having more bloodwork tomorrow and then we see if it's TRT or clomid, etc. Hopefully the former, not the latter. The doctor mentioned if I go onto TRT, it'd be the gel form. Everything I've heard about the gel is not promising, so hopefully I can convince him to put me on injectable.
Sorry for being so late to reply to this but I just got back from vacation.

It was almost like he became immune to the transdermal cream. He started HRT back Sept/Oct of 2006 and the doctor kept having to tweak his dosages. He was on the bioidentical cream and up to 10 mg twice a day and his levels were still under 500. Now he's on 2 ml of test once a week and WOW :google:

Dude, between that and a tantric breathwork seminar it's like a whole new relationship  Which is saying something when you've been together for 13+ years.

man...now that pi$$es me off so much when ppl bitch about steroids...especially in a case like this.

It seems like it really is working out for you and him in the relationship department - and a lot has to do with the prescription of steroids.

Granted the stuff can be used irresponsibly, but like this - I mean when I hit 50 or whatever, and I have hormonal issues, nto gonna think twice.

Thanks for sharign the experience with us.

Hormones can be used very safely and beneficially for men and women. More and more people will discover them as the population ages.

This is so cute I have to share, seriously.

My husband just didn't do well on transdermal test. cream. His doc put him on every two week injectible test but he was crashing too hard in the second week, so the doctor was talking about inserting pellets. We did some reading (finding the best info right here in this very forum), and hubby didn't really care for what he read about the pellets, so he decided to face his fears and go with the once a week injectible test. His doctor taught him how to do his own glute injection yesterday.

Now the thing is, my husband has had a mild needle phobia his entire life, but the HRT makes him feel "more better" than the fear scares him. If he said "Honey, I shot myself in the ass with a needle!!!" once yesterday, he must have said it five times!!! I'm actually proud of him; I know that sounds silly, but it was a big step for him and seeing how much happier he is since getting his levels up to where they finally should be is such a joy! Actually, his levels are in the 1300s (he's 53), the man's got more wood than a lumbar-yard :lmao:

It's amazing the difference it's made in his mental outlook!!! I'll never understand why doctors don't check hormone levels (in both men and women) before they even consider prescribing antidepressants! This is the absolute truth: One year ago, he was so bleak that his GP had written him a prescription for Lexapro. If it wasn't for the things I learned on EF, which got me to ask him to get his hormones checked before he went on more drugs, he would have started taking antidepressants :worried:

I agree with you
docs are quick to presribe some estrogen for a woman thats gone through menopause
men just have to deal with it when their test levels go down

im trying to get my dad to take some test
hes 58, complaining of being tired all day, no energy, etc..
he doesnt want to take a shot, so after my cycle, i will get a blood test done, so hopefully my doc will put me on hrt
i will give him the patches

after hes done with the pacthes, i bet he will take the shot

The real bitch of it is, while some women can use a little estrogen boost after menopause, what they really need is progesterone and testosterone supplementation!

Tell dad to go for the test!!! The shots are a breeze, it's not the needle that's hard, it's the actual injection of the oil, it's so viscous that it's really tough to do (I actually help him and I'm amazed how tough it is to do). It's the best energizing/antidepressant there is! And not everyone seems to do well with the transdermal stuff, I don't know why (skin thickness/texture/oiliness, I wonder)

i told him the visual of the shot is alot worse than the pain of the shot itself

once he feels the effects of the patches, i think he will take the shot

Absolutely, it's really mostly mental. My husband uses 23 g. needles, he was shocked at how easy it was to stick himself. It's just physically hard when it came to depressing the plunger (I thought he was yanking my chain until he said, "HERE, you do it." HOLY shit that stuff's thick!). It's a lot easier if someone else can do it from a leverage perspective.

The patch may work for your dad. What's important is that he finds a positive way to take care of himself. Being over 50 does not mean you have to be depressed, or lack energy or enthusiasm for life. My husband is only 5 years younger than your dad, and he's acting like he did more than 10 years ago, in every respect.
