HELP ME with my arch!!!!

I am having major trouble keeping my back tight and holding my arch. This first came to my attention after my last meet in Tulsa. My back rounds so bad on a heavy deadlift that I'm nearly making a half moon. I pulled 500 at 181 in Tulsa which wasn't too bad for my first meet, but I know with some fine tuning I could do tremendously more. My last ME Squat day we did regular good mornings. On the eccentric movement I had no trouble holding the arch at all, but when I began rising my back rounded really bad. I dropped the weight down a bit and tried to focus on keeping a tight arch, and it helped a little but was still very difficult. Any ideas?

I struggle with this as well, although not as bad as gene machine (must me in the "genes" as I'm GeneMachine's brother.)

I think one thing that is helping, is reverse hypers. Gene Machine knows he doens't do them enough.

Maybe next week we should do arched suspended high goodmornings, and really concentrate on holding the arch?

True... I was thinking of that earlier. I think I probably need to bump up the number of reverse hypers. And then work on some heavy stuff with a strict arch.

I was also wondering if this might account for the slight hunch on the box while squatting. I read on Tommy's site the other day that he had the same problem. What I'd really like to know, is where specifically is the weakness? Seems like middle back, but I'm not sure.

I always thought if you can't hold your arch your low back isn't strong enough yet. My back used to arch when I i lifted heavy. Now that it is stronger, it pretty much stays in the right position. So basically keep training your low back till it gets stronger. See ya soon Genemachine.

I have problems holding my arch as well, and I've always pinned it on lower back, but I don't know.

The GM's have helped my lower back tremendously, and I've done reverse hypers, but I don't feel like they do a lot for me.

I've thought about trying an erector shirt to see if it helps me maintain an arch, but I don't want to depend on equipment for something I should do naturally.

Anyone knows the magic answer, I'd love to hear it.

OOPPS- one other thing I forgot.

Im going to try and use the cambered bar for ME SQ, to see if that makes me overcompensate and makes me hold my form better to keep the weight from pulling me forward.

Might be another idea..

sounds like lower back, my gym doesn't have a rev hyper but i tried using bands around my back as i did hypers and it gave me a smoking i won't soon forget.
