hard lump on side of neck

nycgirl said:
Bran, it's a cyst. They can cut it out of you, if its a problem. I don't know what they will do for the neck area, but when I had it they gave me a local anathesia (sp?)
if you had k i'd bet you for all of it.

its not a cyst!!!! mark my words.

that's exactly what it is

so the bet is on. Bran an imflammed lymph node feels like a fibrous marble under the skin. I would bet that it is not a cyst. I have drained fluid cysts before, they are a bit softer and flexible but very similar but they occur less rarely. I have also seen tons of cysts. Also cancer and mets and such. I dont think you have a cyst but there are boils and sebaceous cysts. I have seen fibroelastomas on accident on aortic valves, lipomas and other masses so it can never be ruled out. But on the neck given your age, assumed history of not smoking and not much drinking except recreationally or any other risk factors. Its probably nothing more than a swollen lymph node.
You'll see that we arent just telling you stuff to make you feel better. There is always a chance of malignancy but you dont have the risk factors. But 4everhung was right, if you feel this on testicle then you are screwed

oh yes.. this on a testicle would be cause for worry!!!!

on the neck.. under the arm.. lower pelvis above the genitals... no big deal.. on the nuts.. get ready for an ultrasound!

Ill bet you 10k you are growing an extra testicle on your neck
lol!!!

nycgirl, if its a cyst on his neck, removing it isn't as simple as a cyst on the back where they are more common. Many more arteries, nerves, and lymph nodes (swollen ones) on the neck.. general anesthesia is usually required.

That's only if they have good insurance. You can "lower" the volume of a benign cyst with a needle then see if it grows afterwards. Depends on the cause of the cyst, sometimes it can be just some cause and fluid grows a sac around it and grows. Clean and sterilize the skin, 19 gauge needle inserted until it bursts the membrane, put it in the center, reverse pressure and draw interior contents til the cyst is to an acceptable level.
Send the contents to the lab for analysis.
If it as sometimes returns to size then again drain it. Refer to a specialist depending on based on the area of the lump.
lol, how many referrals do you think that an Eye, ears and throat specialist gets froms a swollen lymph node? lol

They have researched swollen neck one stop clinics to just feel the lymph nodes as an opportunity to allow the patient to relax

yeah.. draining sucks though and can lead to the build up of scar tissue over time.. if not completely removed they generally return..

its not a cyst though so this talk is pointless.

and I have premium insurance. $450 a month.
