i just recently started taking birth control pills again (ortho tricyclen) and i definately notice that im retaining alot of water weight. anyone know of anything to combat this? thanks in advance

Before you start looking for additional pills to take for the water retention, have you explored other B/C options with your OB/GYN? Different pills have different doses of estrogen / progesterone that may react differently w/ your body chemistry, resulting in the weight gain.

I agree with Sassy. There are SO many different kinds of BCP out there - it is not worth suffering through the side effects of one. Just talk to your doc and see if there is another one s/he recommends.

In the meantime, drink more water. More water will help combat the excess fluid. I hope you are drinking at least 1 gallon a day already. Also, eat less sodium. Watch the sodium in processed foods - it is hidden everywhere - even breads, diet soda, canned veggies, marinades, and salad dressings.

There are some foods that are natural diuretics .... asparagus, cucumbers, parsley. Eat more of these, they will help flush a little water out.

I would suggest switching to yasmin. I have been taking it and it helps to keep water weight off. I haven't taken it in a month because I am do for my year check up, and noticed I have put on water weight since then. Yasmin is great stuff. Definitely recommend it!!!

I agree with the other ladies. At least for me, really behaving myself with my carb intake and keeping it fairly lot always makes me drop water.

(I'm brand new..hope I am posting correctly)
Corn Silk works well for water retention...a bottle is only around $4 or $5 too. It literally is those silky things from corn on the cob. I puff up every summer...my body turns into a giant blister I suppose! This makes me piss it right out.

Sassy is right. If you have a good health insurence talk to your GYN about the IUD. I had problems with birth control pills too. This IUD thingy is awsome: it looks like a T and its placed in your uterus, u dont feel it, your partner doesnt feel it either. Its effective right away and u can take it out whenever u want and be able to get pregnant right away. Plus, no hormons involved in this. I love it!!! Your life goes on like nothing happened, it lasts for 10 years, every year u go for a PEP at the GYN, so u can get that checked at the same time....Think about it and TALK TO YOUR GYN
