Friend of mine argued with me over my protein intake. Who is right?

Hey guys,

A friend of mine told me I'm consuming way too many grams of protein each day. I eat about 200-225 grams each day. She said I only needed about 80g each day and I won't lose muscle mass either with that amount.

She recommended I eat about 350+grams of carbs each day. I'm only getting about 60grams of carbs each day right now.

Who is right? Everyone on this site tells me to eat 1g protein per body weight. I weigh 216lbs by the way.

Okay let's say I'm not a BB. I'm just a regular guy who wants to lose weight, but keep most of the muslce. I lift heavy 3-4 times a week now. I do deadlifts, squats, overhead press, bench, dips etc.

My body right now is nowhere near any of yours. I'm 216pounds and have a lot of fat. I do have good muscle mass though, but it's covered in fat. Do I need all that protein? Would eating 300 grams of carbs affect my cutting diet?

That is hard to so. I cant blanketly state yes or no. But good carbs or not, if you dont need the calories you will get fat.

If I were to cut some of the protein I eat and replace it with some carbs, would I lose muscle? Let's say I eat 200g of protein right now. If I cut 100g of that protein and replace it with 100g of carbs, I'd still be eating the same amount of calories each day, but would I lose muscle?

That's pointless really. Carbs are what promotes fat gain. Dropping protein and increasing carbs is the wrong thing to do. What you want to do is keep protein intake high and carbs low. Fats need to stay moderate.
