Does Cardio Really Make You Weaker?

Several of the bigger guys at my gym have told me that I'll make myself weaker by doing cardio. Is that true? I just started a four month mass building cycle at the beginning of this week. However, I can't stand this flab that I still have. I have some lovehandles and some softness on the undersides of my chest. Other than that, I'm pretty solid. I assumed that I'd still need to do cardio (running or biking) about 3 times a week. If I do that, will it affect my mass program? I know that theoretically you can't cut and build mass at the same time, but I can't stand this flab. What do you guys suggest?

The big boys are correct. Cardio does have catabolic effects. So if you're concerned about losing muscle, keep it to a minimum, hour per week tops. The best way for you to lose that flab and continue to add muscle is to keep lifting heavy and focus on your DIET! But if it's really bothering you, then I suggest you go on a cutting program.

What are your purposes for doing cardio?

I do cardio with my events because to do some of the events...I must be in good cardio shape. I do it for my lungs...and for my training.

If you are doing it for bf%...I'd look at your diet.

If your goals are to gain mass, size, strength, etc...stay away from it or keep it very light intensity.

Sled dragging is also very good...

You're all pretty much saying what I thought. And that's what I do. I lift first, then do high intensity running. Mostly in quarter mile intervals. I'll start out walking, then run a little, then run fast and slow it back down. Variety is the key, I guess. Thanks.
