Dedicated Dieter on Vacation

I am a very dedicated dieter, but am about to venture to Paris for a couple of days... I don't mind splurging on maybe 1 or 2 meals and trying their food....BUT any ideas on what I could bring (in my suitcase no less) for my meals????

Won't have a fridge or stove so ...canned tuna, supps, oatmeal? Anything anyone can add????

I would look around online about the rules & regs on bringing food in your suitcase -- most of the time you CANNOT bring food into or out of other countries.....ever....

Paris is a big walking city -- you will get a lot of exercise just walking around & taking the subway everywhere..... Plus their portions of "unhealthy" or indulgent food tends to be smaller than what's served in the US.

Plus, look at it this way -- have you been there B4?? Will you ever go again?? If not, think of it as a once in a lifetime opportunity & take advantage of it without going completely overboard.....
 
I agree with jenscat. I went to Singapore last December and although I was able to take some cans of tuna and salmon for convenience, I still ate plenty of the traditional Asian staples such as white rice, chicken leg (they don't seem to use the breast over there), satay, curry, etc.

Just make smart choices when you eat out (avoid fried foods, foods high in sugar, order extra veggies, etc) and enjoy it while it lasts. If you are still not satisfied you can always venture to a local supermarket in France and buy small quantities of food you need. I did this in Singapore and was able to find everything I needed except for ANPB. :)
 
Life is too short. Unless you go to Paris every 2 weeks, just enjoy your trip and don't sweat it. I wouldn't even bother carrying cans around. If you feel like you can't sleep thinking about the delicious thing you just ate (which you have never had before) go and buy something... but I would advise against it.

If you are as dedicated as you say you are, this will have no implications in your overall program. The worst that can happen is that you come back bloated because of the extra carbs... nothing that a good couple of days of carb-depleting training cannot fix...

Just enjoy it... sometimes we are all guilty of being too anal about the most insignificant things.

I've been to Paris & they do have grocery stores that are very convenient plus they have "street vendors" who are like hot dog vendors over here but they sell better food. You can always improvise.

If you've been dedicated towards your diet for any length of time, you deserve a vacation from it. Paris & France have delicious foods that should be tried -- fresh made crepes, wines, chocolates -- that you can't get here or can't be imported here. Do yourself a favor & enjoy yourself, cuz who knows when you'll get to go back. Also, if you're with others, get 2 desserts & share them, that way you're not eating the whole thing by yourself.

But, studies have shown that Parisians are healthier than us here even with their indulgences cuz the portions are smaller & they walk everywhere. Walk up the Eiffel Tower -- that'll burn off anything you ate!!
