Deads question

OK, I decided to add deads on my back day. Now, my whole back is sore, lower back, lats and even a bit of my traps. Is this normal or am I not doing them in good form?

your probley not doing them right, as thiswas your first time...but as said many times on these boards...deads are the shit...they hit almost everything

It is normal if you've never done them before. You will be sore even if you're doing them correctly. Make sure you're starting out with light weights and that your form is good.

First time I did them last week, my hams were sore for 4-5 days, I had to skip hams on legs day. This week, my hams are ok but my back is very sore. I'm sure it's because of deads because it never used to be sore whatever I tried.

I started very light then went up to around 90lbs on a small barbell, that's not too much is it? What's the general range of people's deads? I'm trying to use good form. At least I'm trying to keep my back straight throughout the movement and not move my knees forward. Is an alternate grip necessary?

Dude, it sounds like you're doing stiff-legged deadlifts. Those are better on leg day, since they should be primarily a hammies exercise. On back day you need to do DEADS. You know, real deadlifts; powerlifter style. Bend at the knees and squat all the way down, then stand up. And, yes, an alternate grip would be best. It isn't necessary, but it really helps you hold some serious poundage.

Make sure you concentrate on keeping your hips down throughout the lift, should help keep it from turing into a stiff legged dead. I've been going heavy on them for years and am always sore from my ass to my traps after doing them.

Is there anything wrong with stiff legged deadlifts? I always do these on back days and i feal it really well in my lower back.

Nothing wrong with stiff legged deads, but they are not nearly as effective as an overall mass builder as regular ones are.
