Dateline challenge

Dateline has been doing this challenge with 5-6 people that want to go to there 20year high school reunion but want to lose weight... so basically they each follow a different diet.

Aktins, Weight Watchers, some gay guy that wrong a book is ones personal trainer, blah, blah, blah..

But one of the over-weight woman is trying "extreme exercise", which is basically what we do here.. Eat good, run, lift weights.

She was the only one that lost ZERO weight after 2-4weeks. She called a nutritionist to help her. And guess what helped her?

It the same thing I have read over and over on this board... The nutritionist told the lady, "You are NOT eating enough!"

That lady upped her calories and lost 14pounds in 2 weeks. She was originally only consuming 1300cals.

side note, Atkins guy I think lost the most, followed by some guy doing hypnosis/excercise, then the weight watchers guy.. whatever.. i don't really know.. They started in Jan 2003 and will be tracked all the way to Oct 2003 HS reunion time..

they've got something like this going on in the uk called the diet trials. im not following ti though cos i hate seeing fatties complain about not being able to lose weight or not sticking to a diet. heck dont get me wrong, i used to be a fatty myself but fuck that i carried on no matter what and now i'm 11% bf and lost over 40lbs

it's a late night thing. My wife falls asleep, I am still pumped and awake so I lay in bed with her and flip between news and Fraiser!

Just happen to hear "Atkins" and "Diet Challenge" so it caught my attention since I seem to be living and breathing diet, diet, diet right now..

not sure what % I am. I am like 180, only fat I can see is a little around my midsection.. everywhere else I seem lean. i just want it gone man!

That one moron wasnt eating anything so when he started Slim Fast, he was gaining!

I feel bad for the busy mother of 2, she probably has the fastest metabo and they are going to slow it down by cutting cals too much. They should have cut her cals back more slowly.

and the pastry chef, hes got no chance.

I am surprised the gal who ate the same and added alot of excercise didnt lose any, but she proably gained Lean body mass, I hope they let her know that or she will get discouraged when she is making gains.

So far the Hypnosis and atkins worked the best...

how much did they raise her calories???
What do you guys usually consume from a calorie x bw standpoint to lose weight???? I have heard anywher from 7-10 * bw...

I dont really believe in those generic "BW X 12" methods for cutting. I can lean out on over 2,000 cals.

I consume around 2200 calories a day, and have had some success, but I would say not to dip below 2000 cal, as that is pushing it

Here is the whole show recap if you want to read about it:

..................
With her marathon training in full swing and consuming 1,300 calories a day, Lynne’s not losing weight. So she contacts the nutrition captain for the New York City Marathon for advice.

She tells Lynne that given all her exercise she, too, should eat more, 1,600 calories a day, and she puts her on the low-fat USDA food pyramid diet with an emphasis on portion size. And sure enough, her weight begins dropping. After three months of heavy exercise, she can now run 12 miles without stopping and Lynne is down 14 pounds.

RECAP
After three months on Atkins, the former football tough guy has lost more than anyone — 50 pounds, a third of the way toward his goal.

The pastry chef lost the second-most — 40 of his 50-pound goal — with the help of hypnosis.

Our math whiz, Eleanor, likes these numbers. She’s third, losing 24 of her 120-pound goal with the help of her own personal coach.

And our homecoming queen Kathy is next, almost halfway home, down 18 pounds on Weight Watchers.

Maybe the only surprise is that Lynne Frank, training hard for the marathon, has almost lost the least — only 14 of her 35-pound goal. But remember, Lynne is replacing fat with heavier muscle.

And finally, there is Gio, the injured athlete, who of all six, can exercise the least. On Slim Fast, he’s lost 10 of the 35 pounds he wants to shed.

That’s progress all around, but remember, their reunion is six months away. That’s plenty of time to lose more weight — or gain it all back.

“Dateline” has been with these dieters since January, and we’ll continue to check in with them over the next few months. We’ll also take you to their 25th reunion in October, to see the results of the Ultimate Diet Challenge.
