It is very important to have clean gear and to know for sure what it is. There are a lot of things that can happen from "bad gear", like a long hospital stay. I spent 3 weeks in the hospital because of an infection. Which turned into staff infection. Be sure about your gear.

you got to know and trust your sources, but more important be able to spot the fakes.

also, use some common sense. I had gotten some bad 1ml amps, drew one up and it read .75ml on syringe. opened another one, drew it up and it read 1.25ml. I took the stuff back and it turned out to be all fake even though the wrapper looked good.
