5-7% above contest weight HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I put that on in 3 days with fluid retention alone and before I've gained an ounce of fat. The only thing that would allow me to add muscle whithout gaining a healthy amount of fat is adding AAS. Many women seem able to sit around 12%bf while gaining muscle if they are 'supplementing' properly. Without the supps, I've never seen a woman gain any permanent muscle if she tries (like so many do) to stay around 12%bf. It's a sad thing to see a woman after her first figure or fitness competition desperately trying to stay lean and sexy while gaining muscle for the next show, while refusing to take any AAS. This is destined to fail IMHO.

Hi everyone! I have found it just impossble to stay in the 10-12% range and put on muscle,so I no longer try. As long as I'm within 20 lbs of contest weight I don't sweat it. The funny thing is that although I'm heavier than before I began my last contest prep the additional muscle put on has changed my body shape and I look better than ever. I also think that for the older women like myself staying ultra lean is very hard and not for the best. I know that now I feel solid and strong and am making nice gains in the gym. Also I think that we a break form the constant obsession with leanness as that can lead to eating disorders.

Oh my gosh! Thank you guys SOO much for posting this info! Wow. After reading this I have seen a new light. It gives me a whole new way of thinking, gives me a whole new plan of attack for my future bodybuilding goals! Let's just put it this way, I'm guilty! Guilty of being obsessed with getting leaner and staying that way. This changes everything! People, and especially family have kept questioning my desire to be leaner, they all seem to think I'm lean enough. I'm at 15% now and I was wanting to get to 12% and just stay there. But if I can't gain muscle that way then I guess that goal will have to change cause in October I was planning on being at 12%, maintaining there, but shifting my focus to gaining muscle and strength. So you guys have already warned me that most likely it isn't possible. And MS when you said about how your body fat readings will go up 5-7% even if you haven't gained an ounce of fat explains SOO much! And to think I was getting all bummed out over nothing! Cause the same thing happens to me! My body fat readings can bounce up and down from week to week even though I may not see any change in my definition! I was getting so confused! I didn't realize water affected the readings THAT much! So thanks a lot to everyone! Best thread ever! :)

Brick girl,

I must say, very impressive. It's just amazing to me that your able to lose so much weight so quickly. Could you be more specific about your diet(carbs, fat, cal?). How much cardio do you do? Also what size do you go from losing the 30lbs(do you have 2 wardrobes?)? And how much do your measurements change?
You must take some type of supplements or steroids?

I know it's a lot, but thanks for anything

What I have lost so far is just water weight, I have increased my water from 1 gallon a day to 2 gallons a day and went back to my base diet with a little extra protein for "hopefully" a slight increase of LBM from last time. Supplement wise, just the standard 10mg of bratis, but that hasnt even had time to get in my system yet. Clothes, I wear baggy clothes all the time, it's just the panty size that changes :) Right now I am wearing a medium, will end up wearing an XS. Of course I take my vitamins/minerals/creatine daily, and the 6 meals a day timed out. It's just fun getting back into the routine, I LOVE knowing exactly what I am going to eat for every meal, so much better than "what the heck am I going to eat for dinner?" :)

offseason as long as I get 290 grams of protein a day, I am set, I don't watch the carbs and fat as close, but when I am getting ready for a show, the protein comes down to about 190grams and the carbs and fat are in check, everything is measured to the T and there are no cheat days and every day is the same, that is the way I like it. Water offseason is about a gallon a day, when getting ready for a show, goes up to about 2 gallons a day. Works for me :)

when ure getting ready for a show what is your fat/carb intake like?

Well, on my base diet I take in 29 grams of fat, and that stays consistent the whole diet. I take in about 90 grams of carbs through the whole diet and when I get closer to the show, if I need to drop some more I will go to 1/2 carbs for 2-4 days and see if that gets me there, if for some reason, I messed up somewhere, I would go to 1/4 carbs for 2-4 days but I havn't had to do that yet :) Whenever I go to 1/2 carbs and then go back to base carbs, my abs shine out, just like in my avatar, that was a day after a carb deplete cycle. This works for me :)
