box jumps??

thriller

New member
what is a good area to make the box out of for box jumps?
and how high should the box be in ratio to high your vertical is?
i talked to my gym teacher and he said if i tell him all he needs he will make one that is adjustable for the weight room....
would jumping onto the box be considered plyo's or shock treatment? since there is no impact from the landing??
thanks
brent,

box jumps are just so that you have reduced impact forces when you land, kinda useless if you not that heavy IMO.

And risky too, I clipped my toe on the edge of a box once, it hurt a lot.. :)

just do vertical jumps isnetad, you'lll get more out of them, since you can jump maximally, not something that happens with boxjumps .

Thriller,

You could use a bench to do this if you do not have anything right now. Or an adjustable aerobic stepboard with the add on pieces for height. It's that simple. No project involved. :)

If you can jump 30 inches lets say, you should use a height around 20-24 IMO. Work it fast and hop. You don't need people to hold the bench or the box/bench. Whatever you choose. Balance yourself and hop off your toes. Always on your toes. Land soft and hop up quick. This drill can really help you learn how to land and take off. You will also develop a better vert.

Change the height of the box every week. Tell me about the awesome progress you make.
