Best time to eat with my new workout routine?

Hey all...

For the last 4.5 years I worked out at 10am after having 2 meals, breakfast at 6am and then something around 9am. Those days are over as I started a new job and can only work out before work. Now I'm still getting up at 6am and eating breakfast, but working out an hour later at 7am. Keep in mind at this point in time I'm only doing weights.

My question is what should I be eating for breakfast? What should I NOT be eating? My workouts since I started this new early workout have been very difficult. I guess I'm just not used to it yet. Looking for your advice. Thanks in advance!

I can offer some advise here because I've started training first thing in the moorning a year ago and have had some time for trial and error..
You didnt specify what ur having for breakfast so am going to assume that its a full breakfast ( some o.j some brown toast 3-4 eggs etc)
At least that was what my breakfast was.. I found it was to heavy as a meal right before weight training and was feeling less than optimal in the gym..
So far I've tried several things but the one that works for me is a bowl of oatmeal and a protein shake (sometimes I mix them together)
The shake is necessary to put ur body back to an anabolic state (when we sleep for longer than 6 hours the body enters a catabolic state) and the bowl of oatmeal gives me all the carbs necessary to complete my workout..
Right after my workout I have a shake 50/50 (protein/carb) and as soon as I get home I have SOmething to eat (I dont start work till later in the day so Im able to have a late breakfast)
My advice trying eating less since u have less time to digest before hitting the gym.. Have a shake and some kind of carbs to help sustain ur session.. :jenscat

i agree..eating a whole meal right before weight training is rough..i can't even do it after an hour as I get sick..

i would definitely have a shake before hand to get yourself out of the catabolic state like he said above and maybe even a shake to sip on throughout your workout if necessary..

i HATED being forced to train in the morning when I did.

good luck
