hmmm...dumbells are a joke?

yeah, i guess 80 lb dumbells don't weight the same as 160 lbs on a bar.....

Sorry, I ment isolation movements with dumbbells ...

Was there ever any proof that going behind the neck would yield better or different results than to the front?

I am just saying this from personal experience and mostly on building mass on the shoulders and not so much strength.

Behind the neck is far superior for myself. It hits the delts in the right place and feel it much better than front military. I never noticed the strain on the neck or anything else that people talk about with behind neck presses.

I hold the bar so my forearms are parallel to the ground and bring it down to mid-ear or almost to lower-ear level.

It's perfect for myself, feels completely natural, and probably my favorite upper body exercise.

Ask any medical professional, the shoulders are not designed to bear weight in the behind the neck position. You may be lucky and get away with it, but its not worth the risk to me

I've done heavy dumbell press, up to the 115lb'ers, and heavy military press to the front, up to 255lbs for 5x5. For me, by far the best results were with military press. I can handle much more weight that way, and have gotten much more growth

sk just because you're not injured doesn't mean you're not causing cumulative damage right now. How much do you press? What about if you start getting in the 250-300 lb range? Are you really going to want to lower that behind your neck?

So, back to the original question...

I'm actually in the same quandry over push presses and standing military presses. With a push press, you can handle more weight; does this factor alone make it a better movement for gaining size?

push pres is very explosive and helps one handle more weight than normal so this may induce tons of growth plus all the stabalizers needed to stay balance get worked as well. I prefer to switch around from seated to standing and push press.

Actually this thread needs to end. . .

Lets make it simple. . .

Its all about your personal preference, all exercises work differently for people.
