I think abs are somewhat genetic, not unlike calves. Once I got my abs out, they have stayed visible ever since. Assuming you work them hard and heavy, you may be just 1 - 2% bodyfat from freeing them, while at 10% BF. As far as low carb dieting, just eat most of your carbs earlier in the day and taper them after lunchtime. This was Lee Labrada'a approach, also. Kind of like fill the tanks in the a.m. (glycogen stores) to fuel your maintenance and workout calories then burn through it the rest of the day.
