benching grip

whats everyones opinion on the best grip for benching i usually place my middle finger on the line of the bar,but i see a lot of powerlifters that use a closer grip like 1 to 2 inches inside of the line of the bar is there any advantages to the placement of your hands.
 
Depends on you. A lot of really good benchers have very sort arms. As a result they won't go out as far on the bar to get a grip that as porportionately as wide as someone else's.

Just experiment and do what works well for you. It's been so long since I benched I'm not sure I can remember, but I think I also put my middle finger on the ring.
 
I don't have a very wide grip considering I have long arms. I try to put my pinkys about a half an inch from the line when I'm training. When I'm lifting in meets I put them on the line. I don't know what the advantage are, thats just the way I have always done it!!!
 
depends upon your size and whether you are wearing a shirt or not. Raw, it is better for me to have my pinky finger on the line, with a shirt I go index finger on the line. Experiment and find out what works best for you.

I go with pinky on the line right now and i wear a shirt. Im starting to go wider and i have really short arms so it cuts down the ROM a ton. When i used to train raw i went with pinky 2inches from line
 
Well...I am a pretty big, broad shoulder, long armed guy...and I make my widest grip with pinky on the rings. This allows me to have more lat help at the bottom of the movement I believe. I do most of my speed work with a MUCH closer grip than that though.

I use middle finger on power ring. My arms are not long at all. But if you see my pic on the board i tuck my elbows and it gives me enough room to tuck and drive. Any closer i lose the tuck and make a longer decent. Not good.
