If you are not used to training, anything you do will work at the beginning.

Having said that, there are better alternatives to Fatkins, diet-wise

as for training, again, if you are starting, a full body workout is normally OK for getting your body used to the strain. This should be changed to a split program later on where you can blast a single (max 2) body parts per day.

I would shoot for 6 meals a day. I'm not sure what that workout is, but yes if you're new anything will work. I wouldn't suggest the Atkins diet. I tired it a long time ago and it sucked. No energy, lost weight though, really quickly gained it back when I quit. It was mostly fat that I gained back too. Do you know anyone on the Atkin's diet that has actually kept the weight off? It's like yo-yo dieting. This has to be a lifestyle change so what you choose make sure it works for you and it's something you can stick with. If that's Atkin's than good. Eveyone's different.

If you want to try and atkins-ish route more tuned to people engaging in weightlifting you can search the forums for CKD by Mr. X

My brother-n-law lost 95 lbs on Atkins and has kept it off for 2 years, so it does work. It's just like any other diet, you can't go back to eating whatever you want when you're done and expect the weight to stay off.

Does anybody actually read the Atkins Diet Revolution book? Almost everyone (I'm talking about the general public) seems to think it's no carbs for 2 weeks, then stuff your fatass with anything you want. It's really not such a bad plan. First 2 weeks are induction (< 20 g) to get your body going on ketosis, then slowly add complex carbs and maintain that way of eating for life. The restrictions are too vague and lax though -- "eat till satisfied, not full," every 3 hours. I think Atkins is fine (not OPTIMAL) if one calculates BMR and total daily burn, then sets a target for cals, eating real food and not a crapload of sugar alcohols (e.g. all those lame Atkins products).
