arching your back

yeah..... maybe ironpipes needs to be a celing sexual

"he don't arch his back at all" what kind of a statement is that you fucking shit head. what is up with the threat? if you would like to ride your donkey down here from michigan i will happy to show you how to arch your back for the benchpress. why the hell do i care if you know a GUY who can bench 500 with no arch. i know a guy who knows how to speak correctly, so beat that.

Utilizing a slight arch is actually perfect form, there is less chance of certain types of training injury if one uses a slight back arch & keeps their muscles tight. I'm talking about a powerlifting arch, not a football player plyometric chest bounce that all the high school & college "tuff guys" use to prove how strong they are. One of my friends said, "yeah some dudes on our football team can squat over 700 and bench way over 500". He obviously doesn't realize that most football coaches don't test for 1rm. In an effort to make their team sound intimidating coaches will say "we've got 10 guys on our team who can squat 6-700" but what these rather unscrupulous coaches do is take the 225 lb bench press for reps and convert it to a 1 rm, so often you get "hmm joe over here can bench 225 12 times, that's about a 550 1rm".

I just get more than a little tired of football players who think that the ability to run down a field or pass a ball automatically carries over to fighting skill & makes them macho or something. Christ there are 150 lb amatuer nhb fighters who could tear the biggest nfl linemen a new arsehole in about 5 seconds, anyone who has seen the "toughman" competitions which showcased former pro football players can attest to their rather embarassing display of..."skill" . I am not disparaging football players at all and I understand that it is an extremely hard sport to play but I do get a little sick of the puerile attitude that many highschool & college "athletes" have.

kind regards,
jeremy

Wow....I have been away from the board for a few months and this is what I come back to. I think ironpipes is about 16 years old, I know what you mean Jeremy, when I first went to college to play football i was a little nervous before my first workout because i was listening to some of the claims of my soon to be teamates, but when we got going i blew them away and realized that most of them are full of shit and don't know a parallel squat from their asshole and can't spell the word pause as it relates to bench presses.....but in any event a slight arch in the back so long as the shoulders and ass are in contact with the bench is perfectly legal, as long as it is maintained throughout the lift....you can't arch as u are lowering the weight or pushing up, get your arch set before the lift-off and maintain that level until you rack the weight....no bouncing is allowed as a pause is required in competion......I do get annoyed when I see guys do some kind of a deformed neck bridge and bounce the weight off their chest and the only bodypart in contact with the bench is the back of their head, then they claim to bench this or that...but they aren't bothering me and the only people who will end up getting hurt are themselves...
