My coach/old guy/mentor/friend wants me to take a week off DL's and do powercleans instead. Last week I pulled 720, so tomorrow he wants me to clean, then come back the next Sunday and do 730.

What do you guys think? I feel like my body might appreciate that extra week, since I've really been pounding the deads lately. Thoughts please?

actually, i used to do tons of powercleans in high school, andi think they really helped by deadlift, kinda like speed pulls. go for it id say. although i cant do them anymore, cuase i cant rack the bar on my shoulders anymore :mix:

I did power cleans for a while as well as high pulls thinking that they would help increase my pull...

They didn't.

They just threw my body off a bit because the movemnt is different and it threw off my technique. It just had ZERO carry over...for me anyway.

I would go for it. I agree with the speed factor. Just don't do hang cleans. I was doing them for a few weeks and now the bottom of my dl is alot slower and weaker than the top. My top(where the hang clean starts and up) is alot faster though.

Knowing the technic with power cleans is crucial inorder to get the optimal result. However the technic does take a bit of practice. I have had a lot of success using cleans, its help me the most with the lift off phase of the dead.

I think it is a good idea, if I deadlift twice a month it constantly improves, when I've done them weekly, the movement goes to hell. When you're done cleaning, do some clean grip rack pulls for assistance, then next week I think you'll smash your deadlift record.

About what height would you set the pins for those rack pulls? And should I do them smooth, or explosive?
