Alright we saw the Beans VS. Rice thread ...

Now what I want to know is ... which is a better bodybuilder carb? Sweet Potatoes, or Brown Long Grain Rice? Which stands better on the ol GI scale, and which one gets along better with your blood sugar?

I would much rather eat Sweet Potatoes, and I usually mix things up between the two of them quite often, but I have heard from a few folks that rice isnt all that its cracked up to be? What do you guys think is the ideal carb for a bodybuilder to take. Who already takes in very few carbs, and who takes in ZERO high GI carbs except for when training or after. What do you think is the better carb? I already know what I like as far as better tasting goes. But if SP's are that much better than rice, I am thinking I am going to ditch the rice all together. Thoughts???

There is no BETTER when you are talking about those two..........cmon bro.......if you like sweet potatoes, eat em........I switch back and forth............

They're both good for different reasons - I would switch between them.

Yams offer Vitamin C, potassium, manganese, B-6 and fiber

Brown rice (long grain is best) - offers selenium, potassium, manganese (more than yams - like double), magnesium and tryptophan

Sweet potatos (which most markets actually sell) - are similiar to yams but they also offer Vitamin A (crazy amounts) and iron

Go through phases of hating brown rice - I find it's best if you cook it in chicken stock and water instead of just water.
