Well, it was a learning experience. I lifted in Junior 220s at the USAPL New England States Open 5/17. I didn't go 9/9 and I know some of you will say it's not surprising being called for what I was in the USAPL, but I had a great time and hope to get video up here once I can get ahold of it from my friend. It was an awesome atmosphere and I can't wait for my next meet(after I sleep for about a week).
SQ: So my squat sucks and I basically started legitimately squatting in January. Flexibility has been and continues to be something I need to work on. I was looking for 365+
1st Attempt - 315 - 2 whites, the red on depth
2nd Attempt - 345 - 2 reds, side judges on depth
3rd Attempt - 345 - 2 whites, the red on depth
The thing of it was that the same judge red-lighted me three times, and my partner and another guy I know said it was right there. Need to work on depth some more. The weight was pretty easy, I was just locking up at the bottom, I tried to sink as far as I could, but I was locked down as far as I could go. Would have been nice to see what I really could have done, but since they are all PRs, every pound counts.
My partner thought I could have had 365 no problem, and who knows it might have pushed me down farther, but that's something I'll take with me to my next meet.
BE: My bench went pretty well. I was looking for 350+
1st Attempt - 315 - 3 whites, blew it up
2nd Attempt - 345 - 3 whites, went up real nice
3rd Attempt - 355 - 3 reds, this just pissed me off and at the same time fired me up about the meet and my competing with myself. Brought this down a little high and the shirt locked up about an inch short of touching, so I pulled the bar down lower and got the pause. Blasted off the chest and slow to lockout, but when I locked out, the bar started drifting back over my face, and I couldn't stop it, no rack call. I think I rather would have just blown the lift than press it up and have it drift over my face for 3 reds. This was a good press for me, and I might have had a little more, next time I have to make sure I bring the bar low and stay in the groove.
DL: The dead went pretty well. I was clinging to the energy I had left, and wanted to post another decent number to be my stepping stone into the sport. My sub was 690 at this point...
1st Attempt - 410 - 3 whites
2nd Attempt - 460 - 3 reds, and all my fault
3rd Attempt - 460 - 3 whites
Well I wanted a nice round total so my first attempt went from 405 to 410. My 2nd attempt, I had the pull but got impatient and just before lockout I hitched to lock out. I had the weight but lost focus on just fighting it up and as soon as I hitched I knew it and again was not happy. The 3rd went up though and maybe good for another 10-20.
So all in all a good time and decent first meet. 6/9 and an 1150 total. Next meet, USAPL Twin Cities Open 9/6/03. Gotta up the squat.
