You know when parenthood isn't fun?

you know when else? when you find out that your 12 year old, who naturally looks 15, is dating some emo dweeb who DID just turn 15. or when your 17 year old starts driving and is also dating a 15 year old who looks 19. or when your 18 year old is away at college and going through money like water. or BEER.

Yeah, but they're boys so it's all good. Unless it'd be my daughter.

It sucks. Amazing, the empathy we feel for our children and willingness to do anything to make it stop. Some things we can't. I'm sure she'll be over it soon.

It was her 4 month checkup and she got 2 shots in her thigh. She was already uncomfortable and wound up because the doc said she had a bit of wax buildup in her one ear and he used some little plastic scraper to get it out. That got her screaming but I was able to get her calmed down after a bit. Last night just sucked because I could just tell how uncomfortable she was and I couldn't do a thing.

Tell you what, it really tests your patience. I had to go upstairs for a bit and just breathe I was getting so frustrated. I hate not being able to just fix everything.

When you have this feeling (men always want to fix things) take deep breath and walk away.

No one likes it when their child is in pain, but there is an expression in my language, "It is better that you should cry now (meaning the child) than I should cry later (meaning the parent)." In other words our children will have to go through many things that will make them cry, but WE KNOW that if they don't then the child's future will be very sad indeed. When I applied this thought my emotions were less of frustration and more of "calm because we just gotta get through this unpleasantness. It WILL end."

... oh yea and what Stiletto said! LOL

agreed...There were a few times my son would be so upset it seemed impossible to get him to calm down, my wife would get very upset and frustrated, and I would just have to tell her to go into the other room and calm down and let me take care of it. When you find yourself getting to that point it's best to take a step back and get yourself calmed down too.

Where was your wife during all this?

NO, my 12 year old is a GIRL. she's tall and really pretty too.
