So my call center is moving our of state so we all are being laid off, tomorrow May 28 is our last day. We were all given a severance package (the # of weeks varies depending on the level of your position and how long you have been with the company).

So, with the last day being tomorrow, there are some people who i have overheard are not planning on coming to work tomorrow. I hope they lose their severance. It's not "last day optional". But, I guess this is the mentality of entry level hourly wage earners. And they will be in this type of entry level job their whole lives.

Pathetic.

Wow, not coming in on the last day is pretty lame. If for nothing else knowing they dont have a job come monday and they could probably use the days worth of pay. But yeah, I would guess their severance is in limbo if they do that.

That totally sucks (sorry to hear about the layoffs too).

If they are organizing a stay-at-home day, technically that's "Protected Concerted Activity" that you can't retaliate against. You don't have to pay them, but I'm 99% sure you can't be punitive either.

God bless the USA.

Yeah I'm not doing anything about it except telling my superiors what's going on. Other than that, I'm out of it. I just think it shows poor character.

All they gotta do is call in sick and their severance is protected.

c

That depends. The "calling in sick" scenario doesnt always work.

At least not in Canada.

If you call in sick the day before or after a holiday, you wil not get paid for that holiday or the day before or after. A lot of companies use that policy.
