Wrist Pain

Weapon X

New member
I am a short guy (5'5") with a small frame (6.5" wrist), and have been banging away on a bulking routine for the past month. I'm not juicing, nor have I ever (not that I'm against AS, I've just never had the opportunity! :D )
My strength gains have been excellent, and I have been putting on weight real well.
BUT... my wrists are starting to act up. Chronic pain in both wrists, but especially the one I use for my mouse at work.
Wearing a neoprene brace makes me feel like a gimp, and I don't want to lay off the gym now that I've begun a new routine with great results so far.
Any recommendations from y'all?

Hope it's not carpal tunnel, I had to have surgery on both wrists for it, my grip strength is still not back where it was. The doctor says it probably will not be 100% again, but I'm working on it. Good luck with it.

It seems like I don't have any of the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel except wrist pain. No pains or numbness in my fingers. How did it start with you, big4life?? How'd you get it, and how long was recovery from the surgery?

The first signs were numbness in my fingers, and my hands would go to sleep for no reason, shooting pains in my arm. I thought it was in just my right hand but my doctor said if it occurs in one you usually have it in the other. They did a nerve conduction test, and sure enough it was both hands. Took me about 9 weeks before I was able to return to work. I am a fast healer though, some people at work have taken that long to heal from one surgery. I work in a manufacturing plant doing production work. I had the surgery done over a year ago and still working on my grip, mainly affects b.b shrugs and dead lifts.

I'm no doctor or anything and I dont know a whole lot about carpal tunnel, but I get wrist pains once and a while maybe like once every 2 months or so and they last for like to weeks (and they hurt like a bitch!)

I think I get it when I start benching super heavy or do a super hard heavy day of forearms... just my thought:rolleyes:

Carpel Tunnel

It doesn't sound like CTS to me. I've had it.. I had the release surgery, and I had most of my use back in less than a week. Actually being able to workout takes longer. But from just the pain, I don't think that's it. Numbness and a feeling like they go to sleep on your first two fingers and lack of flexibility in your wrists. I had barely pain at all. Yours sounds more like to me your muscles are growing and getting stronger faster than the tendons and ligaments can catch up. That happens a lot to people on AS, but it can happen to natural lifters too. Especally early on. Your muscles grow faster than the supporting tissue. Make sure you're giving your self enough rest, and maybe lower the weights and do slower more controlled reps for a while until your ligaments and tendon catch up. If you have pain that doesn't go away though, I'd agree that seeing a doctor is a good idea. There's an electrical impulse test that can determine for certain if you have presure on your median nerve. In the meantime, ice it and rest. good luck, bro.

i know a lot of people will be against it, but i wear wrist straps when i workout... i've always had bad wrists and straps let me get through 95% of my workouts pain free...
