As someone that use to be over 300 lbs.......food is a HUGE addiction for me, I battle it EVERYDAY....it's soooo hard to get over that. I can understand how people can get that big, not everyone has the breaking moment like I did to get off their butts and do something about it......

The ones that said "emotional" issues is HUGE....I still haven't dealt with all of mine, but in the process of doing so. I do have depression issues but am handling it, I tend to overeat BIGTIME when depressed that's the hardest part I think.

Depression and eat disorders go hand and hand.
Have you talked to a dr. about this?

Pamela yes I was on Zoloft because majority of my depression is from having Post partum Depression.....I weaned myself off Zoloft and began talking to my doctor about all of my issues....I'm now taking St.Johns Wart and some other herbal teas etc..to help with the emotional issues.

I'm battling the overeating, and continuing to goto therapy for emotional support.

I do understand how some people can let themselves go, as it feels like your in the dark and you can't do anything about it.......

Most of you were posting about how awful you felt about his condiditon. Well I was thinking about his Caretaker.. How sorry I feel for them, washing his body ( he obviously can't do it himself) and helping him go to the "bathroom". It's such an awful situation. :wilted:

I was at a local ice cream place (cheat meal :) ) and saw a mini-van pull up. A family of five--a mother and four children, got out. The children were probably between the ages of 4 and 10. ALL of them were beyond overweight...the youngest had to weigh at least 90 pounds. And all of them ordered two or three scoop sundaes. (This is one of those ice cream establishments where even a single scoop is huge). After the youngest finished hers, which she inhaled, she started crying because she wanted more. So what does the mom do? Buys her another scoop.

I understand sometimes families go out for treats (or cheat meals, seeing that I was there for that reason), but normally try to eat healthy. However, something makes me think that this wasn't the case with this particular family. It's very sad to see entire families like this--especiallly children who are not being taught how to eat healthy, mostly because their parents don't know how to eat healthy in order to teach them. It's really not fair to kids to have to live like that...think of all the health problems they are going to have, along with the psychological scars of teasing. It's hard enough being a kid/teenager as it is!

Since I work at KFC, I see this ALL the time!! My kids get leftover chicken maybe once a month, even then it's a drumstick each.....I don't allow my kids to get fast food very often, yes yesturday I went to Mcdonalds and got them a milkshake, but it was a small that I split between the two.....

There's nothing wrong with giving your children treats, but moderation is the key. If we have icecream, it's one bowl and we share it. I know I may sound likea prude or whatever but I'll be damned if my kids grow up overweight...

We do have "unhealthy" meals that the kids love, Mac n cheese is one, but I do try to make it healthier, adding spinache and chicken breast to it...I'm just so happy my kids LOVE chicken and turkey, they could eat that all day if I let them....
