This is by far the stupidest argument I've ever seen on these boards. There is absolutely no documented evidence ANYWHERE that men can take more pain then women, that's just macho bullshit no matter how you look at it. Men are stronger because they have test levels up to 10 times that of a woman, and we all know test is responsible for muscle growth. What does that have to do with pain threshholds? I'm in shock that this simple post ended up filled with such crap!!!

True, there is no documented, scientific data to back up that assumption. However, there is certain empirical data. In most cases, women will "wimp out" much faster than a guy. Even if it is "macho bullshit" the whole machoness of it will give the male the advantage. I know, personally, I will not, I repeat WILL NOT, allow a woman to beat me in a test of will/pain tolerance. It's exactly that "machoness" that makes the male win. Most menfolk don't want to be seen as weaker, lesser or wimpier than a woman. Therefore, whether they feel or like the pain or not, a man will not give in just because it's an affront to their masculinity. Either way, in a test of pain endurance most men will prevail over a woman. Even if it is just "macho bullshit."

It's never worked for my wife and I. We have very different goals and I lift to heavy for her, to much time spent pulling and putting plates off and on.

That got annoying for me real fast. Having to redo the machines and plates breaks the momentum of your training session. Also, it is wise and safer to have a spotter who you KNOW will be able to take that weight, especially when doing squats. Find another bro to lift with and your workouts will be more productive.

That's a gross generalization that doesn't have any place on a board where people come for training advice!

There's a reason that stereotypes and generalizations exist. Besides, I would consider that more of a maxim than a generalization. Also, I'll put my "gross generalizations" whereever the fuck I choose to, thank you. It's not my fault that this thread changed from it's initial intent, but, seeing as how it has taken on this direction, it would only make sense to put that on this board. So, buddy, you're wrong there.

Grizzly, you're right, you can put your "views" where ever you want, but you'll find most of the people on this board don't share them.
Goddess, done and done!

I think maybe I can add some clarification since I'm at work and have nothing better to do.

It seems you're arguing two different subjects here; pain threshold vs. durability. Men are larger and stronger than women, and therefore more durable. In other words, it takes more to damage the average man than the average woman. But this has nothing to do with pain threshold. Women OWN men in that department. It's fairly common knowledge.

I don't agree with that at all. Take my ex, for example. She was definitely a strong and faily tough little bitch(ok, she was a huge bitch). Well, somedays we'd fool around and she'd start punching me so I'd give her a little pinch. She'd scream in pain and I'd scream for a harder punch. How could her pain threshold possibly be higher than mine? I don't know. Maybe I'm a bad example. I like pain. I'm always telling people to hit me with things and, when I was younger, I used to cut myself all of the time.

There's really nothing not to agree with. I'm sure you're all very tough and manly and what not. But we're not talking about you, or your "tough little bitch." We're talking about men and women in general. If you really want me to prove you wrong, I'm sure I can find medical documentation proving this without much problem.

Alright. I would love to see medical data that proves women have a higher pain threshold. I seriously doubt that it exists. Try and find.
