went in worry about makin weight but was pleased to find that I weigh 158 and lifted in the 165 class. My buddy went with me to spot and we pulled outta here at 530am.

1 other guy in my weight class who was to open at 325 so I was sweatin that big time. I initially planned to open at 300 and giving my all at 320.

Then they explained their rules which included a 1 second pause at the bottom of the press which resulted in me backing off to open at 290. Haven't ever lifted with a pause

Smoked 290 like nothin I mean man it was easy. Felt real solid and pumped for 300.

Tried it once and hit the stickin point. Tried later on and hit the same sticking point.

But the idiot who was to open at 325 failed all 3 which left me as the VICTOR of my weight class at the 2002 Missouri State Show Me Games baby. I guess you can't come back down on weight after you put it on???

The contest was a bit screwy as they didn't have flights of lifters designated by age group or weight class but by LIFTING WEIGHT. That was stupid in my opinion and really confusing.

Had some huge HUGE guys there. SOme bodybuilder type; some powerlifting bodies with bellies but man most of these guys above my weight class were studs. Had some old guys in there too that could kick some ass...40yoa+

A good trip but glad to be home. WIll be better prepared for next year. But, a gold will do. The Lord blessed me.

congrats man.. 290 w/ a pause is a great lift at 165... especially it being your first contest(if it was your first contest). Great job

Congratulations.

That is outstanding. Very good lifting, and I am glad your first meet went well. Even if it was not the first one, I am glad this meet went well.

And don't think the flights were screwy. That is the way it is done everywhere. They organize the flights according to your openers. Easier on the loaders that way. Otherwise you may have the 220's out there with somebody doing his first meet and going for 250, 275, 300, while someone else in the same class may be going 580, 605, 630. You can imagine how happy the loaders would be stripping and re-loading all that weight.

Well, good job on the victory. I hope it will be the first of many more to come.

I usually do the 800m at the ShowMe State Games. I may have to switch! Did they have women's weight lifting?

Congrats!!!!!!!!

Congrats man!! That is the only way to run flights though. Just like benchmonster said. But get back to trainin and up those numbers and give em hell again. I have been stuck with opener only many times. Its part of the game . If that was yoru first meet you are now 1-0.

Congrats man 290 @165 that's great. Is your goal to get to a double bw bench now. It's only 330 not that far away just put on the weight and you'll put on the strength.

thanks

thanks everybody for the good words.

Yeah it was my first meet and I see the point about how they ran the flights. It makes sense now.

They did have women competing at the games in both the bench and deadlift.

Definately going to beef it up a bit and hit em next year.

Thanks again elite members.
