Wide stance squats

when performing wide stance squats, or box squats without the box, is there a point where if you go down too low, you compromise form? today I did these, and I had hurt my lower back. this was after I did a light set of atf squats, normal stance. I went lighter on the wide stance squats, but I think i went too low. do you guys just go as low as the box, so to speak?
 
I only do 2 types of squats. Full deep squats and box squats. Can't really answer your questions but sounds like you might have a weak spot in your body...hams/hips/abs maybe...

thats odd that u said that. the only time i feel any lower back pain(usually from increased blood flow) is when i use a convential stance for squatting. I do all my squat workouts with a wide stance. When going light, i go as far down as possible.
Your form may be off or you just lack lower back development. Quit using a belf for squats. The only time i use a belt is when i'm squatting 2 reps or less.
I hate seeing guys wearing a belt for a measy 135lbs. It totally defeats the purpose of building up the abs and lower back.
 
Wide stance squats will strengthen your hips. Also focus on hamstring work, such as stiff-leg deadlifts and lying hamstring curls. Lower back work should be required as well. I personally recommend performing hyperextensions.

Get a set of bands from jump stretch, sit on a low box, double the band around your knees, and flex your hips outward. You'll want to do high reps, like 4 sets of 25.

BFold-thanks for the tip. jump stretch, is this a website?

enrage-I don't squat with a belt, don't go heavy enough for me to do so. I injured my self after a week layoff(started a new job/getting accustomed to new schedule). I do perform deads and good mornings. maybe I shouldn't have warmed up by doing good mornings before I squatted. I finally do reverse hypers on this table that I have at home which isn't the desired height, but it is tall enough for me to do half ass reverse hypers.

I do plan on working out the rest of the week, but will be easy on the poundages.
