why don't other countries like the greatest sport in the world? (football)

You mean decathlon?

Man for man rugby players have overall better athleticism than NFL players.

i played rugby in college (2nd row and 8-man). . .i would have much rather been playing football. . .so much more exciting. . .so much more glory. . .so much more heavy hitting. . .but, it's what i was raised on. . .i don't know any better. . .most other sports seem truly boring (to me) by comparison. . .i say a little prayer every night, that my son (only 4 y/o right now) will get the bug. . .i'd give just about anything to be sitting in the stands, under the lights on a cool, fall friday night 10 years from now, watching him crack the starting line up as a high school freshman.

euro biased coming out.
no nfl and rugby is the number one american sport we would dominate.
not being a braggart tool, but look at the beasts playing nfl.
domination and the euro cvnts would be so bitter

Brocephus, I'd love to see NFL players take off all that shit they wear to protect their delicate little heads and necks and hips and shoulders and go commando. Rugby players do that every game.

i'd love to see a trash talking rugby player's face after stutting onto the nfl field with his equipment on like a badass and then getting hit by brian dawkins or rodney harrison for the first time.

i'd also love to see ray lewis and keith brooking step onto the rugby field and terrorize the countryside.

rugby players are not as a strong, not as fast, and don't get hit as hard. they'd get eaten for lunch by any linebacker and lots of safeties

a couple of lessons i learned when i first started playing rugby. . .

1) you DON'T hit as hard as you do in football. . .those pads and helmets actually work,

2) you don't aim your nose for your opponent's belly button on a straight up, open field tackle. . .if you do, and you catch a knee, your nose will get splattered,

3) when tackling at an angle, put your head behind, not in front of your opponent's torso (exact opposite of football) lest you "dislocate" your up field ear (i saw one kinda hangin' by a thread once. . .yikes) when the two of you land on top of it and then skid down the field after your "successful" tackle.

there are a number of other subtle nuances. . .but those are three pretty important ones.

Nope ... the argument was about the "highest level of athleticism"

The "mixed" component of MMA that is demonstrated by the likes of GSP who would rank "world class" in several disciplines to include wrestling, BJJ, boxing, kickboxing, etc ... qualifies as the highest level of athleticism far exceeding the skill set of playing one position in one sport.

you also bolded the part that said "highest level of strategy".

anyways, even that point is moot because "athleticism" refers to raw athletic ability. it is not comprised of acquired technical skills.

MMA takes a lot of different skill sets and practice, and great physical conditioning but these guys do a very specific type of sport. if you took them and put them in other sports i'd bet you they wouldn't be very good from an athletic standpoint. at least an NFL player can be a kimbo slice light off the bat

For about 5-10 minutes maybe, after which they'd all be standing on the 22 sucking in air like they'd just run a marathon trying to keep up with the pace of the game.

I would pay good money to see a charity rugby union match between professional rugby players & NFL players. It would have to be rugby because yea let's face it, it's a waaaaaaaaaaay easier learning curve than learning 'merkin football.

Digimon, you really don't put your head to the outside when putting in a tackle?

Anyway, it really is a fucking shame we're not big on American football. At least then there'd be something half decent to watch on the sports channels instead of soccer soccer soccer.

Heck I'd pay good money to see that too. Let's see how willing 280lb men running 4.5sec whatevers are willing to put in tackles as they do now without it.

for the record i think rugby players are a lot more hardcore than most fb players and i have a lot of respect for them. i'm definitely not saying they aren't tough

but i still think football has a much higher caliber of athletes, and maybe it is the pads and helmets that allow them to thrive and last in the league. But i'd rather see football players hit super hard and not get superficially hurt, than rugby players hit a lot less hard and get mangled

Ya, what he said!

I have guys fighting this weekend in Nanaimo, BC King Of the Cage. woo Hoo!

If we are talking American Football, then i would say it's kind of a slow game to watch... 30 seconds of action 5 min break, 30 second of action, 5 min break and so on...
