why aren't the record companies adding track info on every cd

If you use a cd ripper that supports CDDB or freedb it connects to the internet and finds the track info for the album; don't think it works on already ripped stuff.

I have a few discs that From Zero ripped for me. I seem to recall iTunes took care of most of them.

Rocks......but it really pains me to see Good Charlotte listening assclowns sporting CBGB t-shirts......nothing worse than a poser.
for reals, it's so easy to be "rock" these days, I hate that shit

window media player automatically updates all my songs. plus any new-ish cd, within the past 5 years should have the songs built into the cd.
I put a bloodhound gang cd (beer coaster or something like that) and it is about 7-8 years old and i had the songs built in. hmm.

does WMP add the info to the actual file, or does it only display the info while in WMP?

sweet, thanks for the tip, it doesn't change the actual file name but it fills in all the track info in the fiels properties so the players display it properly.
