What is the difference between white and red fish?

Is there any difference in nutrients between white and red fish? In the last years I was eating a lot of red fish, mainly salmon, but lately I have tried and started to like white fish, like the perch. Are they equal in nutrition? Which one is better?

Generally speaking, red fish like salmon and trout are much higher in fat and calories then white fish like cod, perch, sole, haddock etc.

That being said, DONT think that red fish is a bad option. The omega 3 fatty acids are very good for you. They will increase muscle insulin sensitivity and reduce inflammation in the body.

The key is to always look for the words 'wild caught' when purchasing seafood. Farm raised seafood is polluted fish ponds and fed corn and soy. It contains very little omega 3 fatty acids and has a very poor fatty acid profile. Wild caught fish will be caught in the ocean. Those fish will be eating everything a fish should eat - plankton, algae, little fish etc.

I would even say that red fish is a healthier option, since it has a ton of omega-3 and other healthy fats, whilst the white fish is a cleaner-leaner option. Both are good, but you would get more benefits from red fish. If you are very strict on your diet and fat intake, then white fish would be better. Personally, I try to have red fish once per week, and white fish once per week. Adds a little bit of variety to my nutrition plan.

^^^^ this makes it very simple but it is true. White fish is good for an every meal protein source while red fish like salmon is good for a couple meals per week. They are both amazing foods to have in your diet.
