What are good exercises for bouncing?

I will be serious for a change. . .

Basic compound movements and lots of extra work on the bag. . .also train with someone who has had a background in wrestling.

good idea, I should get a bag, hmmm :D

I also recommend that you learn:

- double legs
- single legs
- firemans carry
- headlocks
- throws
- ankle pics
- foot sweeps

If you have a solid background in strength training, boxing, and wrestling techniques. . .you will become one solid bouncer.

what is a 14 inch press?

is this a rack lockout? possibly for pushing people out the door? not that i have ever bounced (or been bounced), but i would say that working the core muscles with compund excercises as well as working the grip would be beneficial.

I’m currently doing security at a night club on Saturdays and other places once and awhile,

I was just wondering if there are some specific exercises that would benefit me for this type of job.

Powerlifting + self-defense classes

You might try working out with a keg (shouldering it, carrying it around). You could also get a bag of sand and work with it. I'm not a trained grappler or anything but it seems if these things would help.

Two words.

Stun gun.. jk.. i have a few friends who are bouncers. They say the main part of bouncing really isn't hand to hand combat and stuff. The main idea of bouncing is for the whole security crew to gang up on one guy, pick him up by whatever u can grab and escort him forcefully to the door. If you cannot do it by yourself, thats why you have other people with you. Never fight inside the club, just pick up the guy(s), throw him out and lock the door =). That being said, this normally involves alot of grappling and dragging, as well as grip strength when gripping the clothes of an individual.

Of course there is always the exception which you should be prepared for ie. head to head fisticuffs.

I like wildonsquats reply, usually there is less fighting involved than peope think, also I agree with louden in general, wrestling techniques can come in handy. Most of the toughest SOB's I know have good wrestling background, you can pound on their face and they will never let you go....eventually you get tired and they beat on your face....

My best advices from experience- be fast enough to get out of the way of the drunk a$$ haymaker 99% of them always decide to throw... then throw them in a full nelson and smash their face into every door and brick wall you can find on the way out....

In case you do need to duke it out, strong lifts in the squat, clean push press, and a 400-450lb bench couldn't hurt in your pursuit to turn someones face to hamburger (if they stay on their feet that long)

uhhh guys if you decide to wrestle someone in a crowded area you are pretty much fucked....every time a bouncer gets his ass kicked it is because he goes john waynin and decides that he'll go toe to toe with someone....that is when the guy's drunk friend slices your hamstring tendons with a 2 inch keychain blade while another one jumps on you and chokes you out. Guys don't come into clubs alone....and little guys won't start shit unless they have something on them.

My favorite exercise is the one where i take the oc spray saftey up and squirt it in first idiots eyes.

here are my observations:

carry oc spray

use the other security guys

if you get trapped and have to fight don't fight fair.....there is no referee

never go to the ground

don't follow people to their cars

when in doubt hit first and hit hard then leave it for the other security guards to clean up

this is for pillsbury--- when someone is on the ground and bleeding....don't kick him in the face in front of the owner of the club....lol

I bounced for two and a half years in college. I threw one punch the entire time and that got me a thrid degree assault ticket. The best thing to work out is your people skills. Being big and strong doesn't do much if you don't know how to use it. The main thing to remember is attitude is everything if you don't take shit people will learn to stop trying to give it to you.

Cheers,
Scotsman
