I'm really not sure how wrist curls are going to develop your grip...

You might try standing holding two dumbells. Then open your hands as far as you can without dropping the weight and then close them again. Hold your hand closed for a while on each rep. The other way to really help is just pick up weight out of the rack and hold it as long as you can. Hope that helps.

Cheers,

wrist curls would not help much in imo. you need to work things where you are working your hands, not just your forearms. you can do static holds with DBs or BBs. work your hand around in some wet sand. hold two plates together. big forearms are not a good indicator of grip strength. i dont have very big forearms, but ive never dropped a deadlift(knock on wood).

Another thought...

Get some 1" chain or slightly smaller. You will also need to go to Lowes or Home Depot..etc...and get a 8" or so section of 1 or 1 1/4" pipe. Get a hook also or some sort so that you can connect the chain together.

Put the chain through the 8" section of pipe and loop the chain through a 45 or three. Grip the handle, stand up, hold for time. This gives you a rolling handle, works your grip a lot, and it is cheap. You can make two and work both hands at the same time also...

Hope that made sense.

Don't worry. Once you start training it, you'll make newbie progress with it. You'll be happily suprised if you stick with it in only a month or so.

thanks for all the posts guys. Ill give all th ose suggestions a shot. Hey Thai......So on the crusher, should I close it as far as I can......for reps? Man im pretty good in judo with a pussy grip, i cant imagine how much better ill be iwth a better grip:):) I cant wait

I had the same problem you did about a month ago after i got my #1 coc. I did pinch grip of about 3 sets on 10 lb plates, static holds with 315 on the barbell, supersetted a sporting goods store gripper. Now i can close the #1 for about 6 reps...progressing quicky too...going to buy the #2 soon.

You can try these....

- Use both hands to completely close it, then let go with the other hand and do a very slow negative with the active hand.

- I think you said before that you had the Trainer(?). If you do, you can do strap holds. Close it all the way with a strap(fabric, leather, whatever...weighted at opposite end) crushed between the handles. Keep it suspended as long as you can. Its tough.

- You can also file down the T, so you need to go past the original point of closure. This makes it much harder to close fuly, and trains your hand with more ROM.

I guarantee you'll be happy with a strong grip in judo. When you slightly miss a joint lock or grab that would normally cost you the technique, you can easily compensate with a powerful grip. It will definately be a huge asset for you. Keep us posted on your progress bro.

BTW, if you want to close the gripper, and thats the most important thing right now....just hit the grippers. If its more important to you to develop your overall grip for judo... train in everything(statics, thick bars, levering, pinching). Your crushing strength will progress slower, but you will develop a better overall grip.
