Trailer for James Cameron's Avatar

This movie would not be possible without cgi. Lol I suppose that means he just should never have even bothered. I've never understood the automatic disdain for technical effects, especially when they're representing a setting and characters that are out of this world, so to speak. Hell damn near everybody loved Terminator 2 and that was obviously cgi, and in a real-world setting no less.
This will be the most pristine looking thing anyone has seen on a screen pre-12/18 and it's built around groundbreaking 3D tech to back it up. Expecting a Quicktime trailer to do this movie justice is like eating a frozen pizza expecting it to taste homemade.

eye candy is no substitute for good writing and a worthwhile plot.

How can anyone expect to assess good writing and a worthwhile plot from a trailer? There have been more times when a trailer was made to sound far better than the movie actually was. I think in this movie's case at least, it's primarily a matter of most adult minds becoming too cynical to accept much of anything off the beaten path.

i cant imagine anything by cameron being that far off the beaten path.. and i cant remember the last hollywood blockbuster to do so either. is it really that hard to assess that steaming pile of a trailer.. or am i just that much of a high brow cinema snob?

if the latter, well thats just fine by me too :)

Yeah but it alays looks good on blu ray, surround sound and 62" hdtv. (Plus hollywood cgi flicks do HUGE business in foreign countries whose local film industry can't create stuff like that. Chinese don't lineup to watch there will be blood or juno).

No one buys schindler's list to show off the power of their entertainment setup.

The Japs eat this shit up like it is candy. My bet is Avatar does well overseas.

Who knows, all we have seen is the trailer.

it'll make big bucks. That's all that matters.

btw: U got good a glimpse at what the world of warcraft movie will look like as well. lol!

LMAO! RG, it must make big bucks. Very big. The budget on that fucker probably exceeded the GNP of Sweden.

Word. These movies have enormous budgets cuz they always make them back in dvd, toys, comic books, hotel ppv, video games, fast food partnerships and worldwide ticket sales. Movies like 17 again and funny people make squat in comparison.

Plus fx houses like ilm and digital domain don't do this shit for cheap :)

Very true. A good friend of mine lived in New Zealand for 3 years or so a while back b/c her husband worked for one of the CGI houses and they were doing it in NZ. Be Damned if I can remember what movie it was anymore, but he got very well paid and he was just one of about a zillion CGI grunts on that film.
