Thoughts on chins...

What all variations of the chin-up do you do? Reverse grip, clean grip, wide, narrow, parallel handles, thick bar, one handed...etc...

What have you had the most luck with?

I remember seeing some guys doing rev grip chins in the gym one day and pulling the chin bar to nearly their belly button. It looked wild but felt cool...felt it in my lower lats. Was wild hanging almost parallel to the floor though.

Palms facing away from body and widegrip. I found these to be the most effective for my lats. I go slow on the way up and the way down to full extension. The burn is incredible, I find by not just trying to get your chin above the bar, but more importantly working the lats as hard as you can you get better results...

Have a look on T-Mag for "Sternum Chin-ups". I think they're a brilliant exercise, but incredibly difficult.

For simplicity and lat development, I like pull-ups best (pronated, wide grip).

I used to use palms facing away because that's all I saw in mags  The only problem was my forearm would get exhausted very quickly and I wouldnt get a good lat workout. Now I only do palms facing me, feels and works much better for me.

Really I never felt my forearms ever give out at all. Try doing them first in your workout, maybe this will help you.....

For me it's a grip between wide and medium stance, I say go as wide as possible WHILE being able to chin all the way up until the bar touches the upper chest. If I go wider I restrict my range of motion, if i go smaller it;s more of an arms exercise.

I see a lot of guys take "chinning" as going up until chin touch the bar. I feel you have to go up some more for full lat activation.

don't chins (with palms facing body and shoulder width apart) hit moreso your bi's and rear delts. i'd like to do them when i do my back, but are they just as good if i substitute them for pullups (palms facing away) or barbell row? i just don't want to feel that i'm "skipping" an exercise!
any thought and comments would be great
