I have to say, training and dieting for this NPC contest has re-confirmed what I knew along .

All these diet manipulations that the science geeks love to talk about is utter bullshit. Going old school here. All the books and all the methods and clinics and theories and seminars and analysis about fat loss can be summed up in one sentence:

Eat as much protein as possible with as little overall calorie intake as possible.

Done.

Done-fucking done, done. There's really nothing else to say or do. That is IT.

I love this straight simple truth!!!
 
The funny thing is when a person get to very low bodyfat percentage they don't keep it. It got to be hard as hell to maintain such a low percentage while living a normal life. If you are not trying to enter a contest why get so low? What about have a healthy bodyfat percentage while having a nice build. Works for me!!!
 
everyone is different but nelson is right, carbs are the enemy when cutting, protein should be your main calorie source, for me, doing cardio 7 days a week got me the leanest ever. diet is most important always, you eat like shit, you look like shit!
 
I have tried with and without the cardio. Tried IF....tried lots of meals.....still way under maintenance daily unless my maintenance number is like 800 per day.

My genetics are geared to put on weight. Which would be great if I was an aspiring bb'er. But I have no desire to get overly large. Just solid build and lean. I'm fighting my body constantly to try to stay and get lean.

Lots of folks have told me I must be doing things wrong. But I track every calorie and macro. Always been on point.

Sounds like you have gone so low on calories with way too much cardio and in turn severely damaged your metabolism!!

diet is very important but with some guys they can eat shit and still look great. i wouldn't call my diet great when i was younger but because i was an ectomorph i could eat all i wanted and still was shredded with an 8 pack. everyone is different.

i eat good cause it makes me feel good to eat good. gut food makes me feel like shit.
 
If I want to get to 5/6% body fat I'll just drop my cals to 4k 100% clean for two or three days, that seems to do it every time... I find it very easy to be ripped but very hard to gain mass so my strategy is to remain lean while adding a couple of pounds at a time... I agree with Steve everyone is different, different lifestyles different responses to nutrition and training, I suppose a massive part of making progress is working out how best to manipulate those variables to achieve your goals....
Nelsons strategy has worked for me in the past but then a high fat diet worked as well and so did carb cycling, one thing in common protein has always been high...
 
So just protein for breakfast lunch and dinner plus snacks right?

New to this and am bulking now but feel a bit fat, so after cycle and all the big weights just go cardio and light on weights right? And with that diet I should get some good definition correct ( the hamsters running here) !

No snacks and not just protein. I get a little fat and carbs with eat meal but keep them low.

Have you a strict diet then nelson and if so do you have a copy of it?

My diet is pretty poor for a first cycle, I'm going for a bulk programme at the mo but I know how essential the diet is for this to work. Just would like some info on the whole cutting thing please as feel strong but a bit fat.
 
Well ... I KNOW I need to change my diet up ...I considered IF and tried it for 3 weeks ... but those damn shakes and shivers and sweats I get EVERY SINGLE DAY 3-6 times a day and I feel like I am going to feint ... nah ... not worth it. I tried it and pushed through all those shit encounters for 21 days thinking (hoping? wishing?) that it would blow over, but it didn't. Now I need to start looking at something else as I've bumped up to 18-20% following my last bulker. I ate around 5000 Cal/day and really REALLY GREW like f*ck ... but at the expense af slabbing on loads of lard in the process. Now I need to drop it.

My diet isn;t strict at all. I think that's a sure way to fail. I have a simple philosophy -- don't eat anything that doesn't benefit me.

Here's an example of what I had yesterday

Breakfast -- Omlette made with 2 egg whites and 2 whole eggs. Piece of toast.

Cinnimun shake before workout

Lunch was a burger with tomatoes, lettuce and onion and a seltzer.

A couple of hard boiled eggs as a "snack"

Dinner was grilled chicken with asparagus and some curried chick peas

Later I had a salad with slices of ham and low fat swiss cheese

Chocolate shake before bed

Now, does that sound like I'm suffering? Everything was good fuel, no crap.
