So as I left school today, I decided to bring my other half some food at work... the dinner choice was a #1 from McDonalds. The Mac and I have a long history. I thought I would be able to handle it, but the smell of the french fries filled the entire car on the drive there. Truthfully, not only did my mouth water, but it was almost arousing. Alas! I resisted. However, when I got home I dug into my stash and went through two packs of cigarettes... the candy ones. Cavity sticks, I know. But my gosh...

Does anyone else have a food they have a really hard time saying no to? Keep in mind the holidays are creeping up.
 
If there is something I can't say no to and I am trying to lose weight and or maintain weight I just don't keep it in the house its that simple.

Candy cigs?! Wow blast from the past on those! I'm pretty sure they banned those along with the real ones here in flordia awhile back.....anything chocolate gets me. I live w/ 2 middle aged men that are happy being fat so they eat/drink whatever they feel like. I make them hide their chocolate in their rooms if they want to actually be able to eat. Lol.

Omg those things are delicious! But just in eating one I an feel my sodium shooting up lol I don't even like to think about how much extra work needs to be done to compensate for one.

As for the candy cigs, I'm pretty sure they're gone in the majority of the southern states... I ordered a giant box from amazon =). Secret stash = candy cigs, peanut m&ms, skittles and kit kat bars. Its the drawer that I'm only allowed to open on during midterms and finals.

I once read that you have to walk the length of a football field to burn the cals from 1 m&m. I really hope that's not true.
 
If I were to get home and find that my husband had made me a spagetti dinner with meat sauce, caesar salad and garlic bread I probably couldn't say no - no matter where I was in training.
I have learned the hard way that sugary stuff just has too many side effects for me- I feel really really ill after eating cookies or desserts- like passing out, feeling like barfing, and being moody. I think I'm really sensitive to sugar or something. My doctor assures me that my blood tests are all OK but I think I might have a problem like being pre diabetic or something. It feels so wrong.
But a big carby fatty dinner like pasta- omfg.
 
Another tip is making sure you are prepared with food on you at all times. I normally carry around at least 1 oz of almonds with me. So just in case I am not left with crappy options. Also make sure to eat before you are going to be around tempting foods this way you will be full so you can say no easier. Never go to the grocery store hungry ever LOL I tend to go after dinner and with a list and keep on track with the list.

Try a pickle next time you want a chip. I don't even like potatoes but once and while I crave chips this week actually so I had 2 pickles.

Great idea!! I was craving every bit of food mentioned until I came to pickles and now that sounds good! I will have I get some and use them as a go-to.

So I've heard different things...is peanut butter something I should eat or stay away from? Obviously not huge amounts but having 1 serving per day with my apples.

- in the middle of getting certified to be a PT. I'm doing the YMCA one. Not sure whether I'll get an additional one, itr eally doesn't matter too much as long as it's not one that is solely profit-based like CanFit Pro- lol
Going to a Heartwise workshop at the end of the month to get certified to train cardiac rehab patients too.
Doing some of the legwork to test the waters on opening up my own gym too.
 
What does a typical day of your diet look like Blue?

breakfast - nuts, coconut milk, 3 boiled eggs and gluten free home made muffins
Snack: bean salad with tons of veggies
lunch: pc of chicken with sweet pot
snack; apples and almond butter, nuts, seeds, goji berries
supper: maybe another pc of chicken and more bean salad, spaghetti squash
snack; protein drink (sometimes) olives and gluten free crackers, sometimes soup

I try to avoid all processed, but some gets in there, My diet is mainly real foods.

A little, but not really! It's so subtle.
They have some great brands if you're in the US, here in Canada, we have one brand.
Try the one with vanilla to start. I drink the unsweetened one which I got used to.
 
QT: I love pickles but never buy them. I used olives to kill my salt cravings. I'm an olive addict! Good tip though, I am going to buy some

Something I crave a lot is rice crispies it's strange as it only started since I tightened up my diet and it's not like before I used to eat them alot ..
 
There isn't much I absolutely can't say no to. However, there are those times! If my mouth is watering and it's a crazy craving..I take one bite and enjoy it, binge behavior takes years to break, I'd rather be mentally healthy and take the bite, eat the cals in the bite and move on with my day and not waste energy dreaming about food. :D It is easier to do damage control when you've taken one or two bites of a hamburger and two fries than it is to work off the cals of a binge on foods you didn't even really want anyway because you were eating around a craving. My .02 :D

I don't let this happen all the time, I guess I just prepare for mistakes. I don't try to be perfect anymore.

Course, like QT said...if something is not in the house you can't eat it. My most tempting foods are chips so I don't buy them.

It's very good, but if you're anything like me you should weigh it. I will lie to myself and tell myself that heaping tablespoon is legit. OLOLOL.

LOL!! A woman after my own heart...Yeah, I really need to invest in a kitchen scale. Thanks cindylou!! Would natural peanut butter be better than Crunchy Jiff?! (think I answered my own question..)

I'm sure if you just have one serving of all natural pb on occasion you should be fine. I have some everynight before bed! weve been getting some awesome apples here lately.

I go low fat smooth it's better for you so = 1 extra tble spoon lol!!
Someone suggested power butter I googled it and it's great all the oils are the good oils. But I tried to buy it in Uk and no luck!!!

PB is just dangerous for me because I like to eat a lot of it and it's so calorie dense that I can blow over my daily intake by 1000 calories in no time.

I think weighing is very important, especially when you're getting started and have a definite goal in mind. It can feel obsessive and one has to try to maintain that balance but I did find it quite eye opening to start weighing foods and realizing how much or how little I was really eating. If you can, I'd get a digital scale and I'd use the scale over a measuring cup for things like veggies....I always felt ripped off when measuring a cup of veggies and having space between them in the cup!! LOL

Gotta sneak it from my husband. We both eat very good so it is a big deal (in a kidding sorta way) if one catches the other cheating. Since I'm "sneakier" than him I have the upper hand...I'm sure ya'll can keep my secret.

eh...still not sure if I want to compete. I've gained a metric asston of muscle but still have my boobs. I think I like it that way.

Fried stuff will do that too due to the heat involved in the preparation. IIRC it's mycotoxin creation during frying that does it.

Now I'll eat the hell out of my organic almond butter. I make my own protein bars with that stuff every weekend and work on them throughout the week. (whey protein isolate, almond milk, almond butter, gluten free rolled oats, stevia, organic cinnamon) Only real pisser being so much bigger these days is you have to fricking eat constantly to maintain the size. Having high cal protein bars handy is a must.

Hey Donna...yep they are the same thing! I grew up with a British grandma and we ate "porridge" all the time. ;)

This might be a busy thread for Thanksgiving. My aunts homemade mac and cheese is what I can't wait for. (Made with real cheese, real butter and full fat mayo. Must try to control my portion sizes.

I guess this is a good place to admit that I sat in bed Sunday night and ate an entire chocolate pudding cake from the grocery store... If I had to guess, I would say it prolly had about 2 MILLION calories, and about 85% of them from fat! As bad as my stomach hurt after, I am craving another as I type!!!
 
I had some ice cream for lunch today....I'm sick. Justified! ......really really craving cheesecake factories mud pie!! 12 inch high 5 inch wide piece of 7 layer chocolate cake layered w/ chocolate cheesecake, icing and choclate chips. Topped w/ 3 scoops of ice cream and all the fixings!!! Uhhhh heaven.....

D I don't really know too much about gluten or gluten free. Honestly I don't know why people go gluten free unless they are allergic or have certain needs in which gluten causes flair ups. Anyone want to educate us? That's what RW had in her recipe. Was gluten free.

I used to work there so we'd have them after our really long shifts. Killer! Ok so....I couldn't eat much today. Just wasn't feeling it. Got home and downed 3 hostess cupcakes! Grrr

The dumplings I've had are almost like big fat noodles but they are made out of dough. I've never had mine with gravy before. Typically we cook them in chicken broth with chicken for a few hours and it kind of makes its own juice. Sounds kind of nasty the way I've described it but it's so very good!! Yummy. One of my favorite meals!

If I binge it's almost always on nuts... Almonds, macadamias, whatever (except peanuts). Unsalted, organic, the more wholesome the more irresistible and the more likely I will overdo it....

Periodically I have to take them off my plan to check myself. I can undo a whole day of good eating in minutes! I find making sure I have enough other dietary fat (red meat, olive oil) helps keep cravings down, but it gets harder when my body fat is lower or I'm following a very low carb diet.

Mobile, al so even closer to you!!! We used to go to Jacksonville all the time growin up because my dad loves to surf! (not too many waves in the gulf). Ill have to check into chicken and waffles!
