stretching the lats...

When I sit at my desk debugging/coding for a long time, my lats get tense and very sore. This is a daily thing.

I've worked out one way to get the blood flowing in there again is doing light bent over rows (think AR-like activity - my officemates find this interesting :) ) - I would like the stretch these muscles too though. Planning on bringing the swiss ball in to sit on as well.

Anyone know a safe stretch that targets the lats? As I have tried a number of yoga positions and they don't appear to work.

The simplest stretch I know of for the lats, is to grab on to something over head, and just let your body hang. Another one is to grab onto an object in front of you, such as a door jam, and just press your hips back.

Here's a great lat stretch that I really like:

From a slightly bent position, grab onto a pole or railing or whatever with one hand, thumb pointed downward. Then simply pull back and twist slightly in the opposite direction of whichever arm you're using. It really stretches the lat.

Your officemates only find your antics interesting??
