stretching is so gay

if I were going to do legs I have to stretch for a half hour before hand. Especially hams and groins. I cant stretch legs enough.

For upper body I have to keep my chest really stretched out or as the muscles grow they pull your posture forward which can cause all kinds of issues, impingements, spine alignment ect ect... I just grab two 5 lb plates and lay on a flat bench and lay my arms out to the side and let the weight pull them down slowly to the floor. Takes about 60 seconds. Actually get a nice pump too. Definatley have to breath during, almost like doing a set...the shit hurts if done right.
Then I do some fwd and rev arm circles with the plates then hang for 30 sec and hit it.
if I stretch too much my rotators start to get fatigued and it fucks everything up.
A stretchy band held in both hands and doing up over the head to the rear keeping your arms as close to your body as you can for 20 reps does a good job getting blood into your rotators and delt muscles too.
Thats the biggest thing for me...getting those rotator and shoulder muscles full of blood so I dont start beating on them cold.

bikram yoga is effin awesome

theres couple of hardcore BB types at the studio I go to and they all whine like bitches in it

it WILL get you stretched out like no ones biz...Im addicted to it but a lot of people honestly can't hack the heat if the studio is set up right

and I kinda gotta chuckle at what stevesmi said....if you're focused on the yoga in bikram at least initially...you won't even notice another soul in the room

Stretching does suck, but it is a necessity for your muscles, especially those of us who lift heavy all the time. Massage and stretching helps lengthen the muscles, hence helping the muscles grow...all I know is I need a massage bad!

Want a better workout? Then don't stretch beforehand..

Traditional stretches, like when people bend over to touch their toes or stretch their legs on a fence, often cause the muscles to tighten rather than relax — exactly the opposite of what is needed for physical activity.

Experts say it is like extending a rubber band to its limit. When people stretch to the maximum, they are more likely to pull a muscle.

When you stretch before exercising, your body may think it's at risk of being overstretched. It compensates by contracting and becoming more tense. That means you aren't able to move as fast or as freely, making you more likely to get hurt.

^^^ yes never strech before.. stretch after. this is something i have talked about before on here and got some resistance but its true with runners and weightlifters alike.

now if you are a football player and are getting bent every which way on the field then yes stretch before your game obviously as you don't want to tear something if you get a leg stuck in the pile. but you will notice that players get a lot of pulled hammy's and that is exactly why. but that is the risk they take vs. risking more serious injury. as a lifter we don't have to worry about getting our leg stuck in a pile or getting hit from behind so no reason to stretch before.. WARMUP, but please don't stretch

This is great info right here ^^^^

I guess it means for me that pre workout with some band movements ect...is more to get blood flow in the area as opposed to "stretching". I know for me its a must with my rotator muscles.
PWO stretching is definatley a good thing. Especially off day stretching and weighted stretching to get those muscles to grow.
If anyone has read the Dog Crap Extreme stretching....its good shit to try.

I usually go for a few reps (like 10-15) at a weight half of what I'm planning on starting with for the day for a warm up

Stretching in the shower seems to help me. The wrestling coach at my school always preaches to stretch in the shower

extreme stretching DC style for the mother fuckin win
