I knew it was a matter of time before people would start dieing from these supplements. All supplements are garbage in my book. Supplements are not absorbed in your system, your system takes what it needs and urinates the rest out. I hope they send the makers of this drug and all others peddling bullshit pills to jail.. Discuss

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Hydroxycut products, popular dietary supplements used for weight loss, have been linked to liver damage and are being recalled, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Friday.

The FDA has received 23 reports of serious liver injuries, including a death, linked to Hydroxycut products.

The FDA said it has received 23 reports of serious liver injuries linked to Hydroxycut products, which are also used as energy enhancers and as fat burners.

The reports include the 2007 death of a 19-year-old male living in the Southwest, which was just reported to the FDA in March. Other serious liver problems reported included liver damage that resulted in a transplant in 2002, liver failure, jaundice, seizures and cardiovascular problems.

The FDA is warning consumers to immediately stop using 14 Hydroxycut products manufactured by Iovate Health Sciences Inc. of Oakville, Ontario, and distributed by Iovate Health Sciences USA Inc. of Blasdell, New York.

The company is voluntarily recalling the following products: Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets, Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets, Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Caplets, Hydroxycut Max Liquid Caplets, Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix), Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Liquid Shots, Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink), Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed, Hydroxycut 24, Hydroxycut Carb Control and Hydroxycut Natural.

According to the FDA, last year, Iovate sold more than 9 million units of Hydroxycut products, which were distributed widely to grocery stores, health food stores and pharmacies.

"The FDA urges consumers to discontinue use of Hydroxycut products in order to avoid any undue risks. Adverse events are rare, but exist. Consumers should consult a physician or other health care professional if they experience symptoms possibly associated with these products," said Dr. Linda Katz, interim chief medical officer of the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.

Liver damage is rare, but patients who experienced problems were taking doses recommended on the product label, the FDA said. Symptoms include brown urine, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, stomach pain, itching and light-colored stools.

The FDA has not yet determined what specific ingredients are responsible for the problems, because the products contain a variety of overlapping ingredients and herbal extracts.

Dietary supplements sold before October 1994 are not required to undergo any FDA review before going to market. The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) required manufacturers to ensure a supplement to be safe before marketing. But manufacturers still don't need to register a product with the FDA or get approval before selling a supplement.

The agency can take action against an unsafe supplement once it's on the market. Since December 2007, any serious adverse event reported to the manufacturer must now be reported to the FDA within 15 days

It needs to be reposted to remind people that supplements and pills are bullshit and people are just wasting there money and making the people that are peddling them rich..

So its a repost on Chat and Conversation? Because the links you provided are from the AA and Nutrition forums?

is it just hydroxycut in general or a specific ingredient in it that's linked to damage?

In one of the other threads about this same topic it's discussed a little more in detail. Others speculated that it's just a specific ingrediant.

who cares if its a repost? we all are here to post whatever the fuck we want as long as its not rude or demeaning to other ppl

Thanks jon.. he wont post in here again. Im trying to post an informative message and he wants to play games.

I appreciate your informative information :)

I hope members here are not silly enough to use this product to begin with. Muscle tech = Trash

Lipostim for the win!

The sickening feeling of realizing you just wasted your money on utter shit.

How is lipostim any different? I bet its the same thing if not close? Things like this couldnt be healthy for you

Lipostim is drastically different imo.

Night and Day. LS3 is by far the strongest legal stim i've ever used. That does not mean it's better than HC, but it gets my vote. Muscletech is a very shady company.

People think that 5-hour energy shit works, too. Generally speaking, people are dumb and blindly follow advertising. The funniest part is people pushing brands instead of drugs. PSA: brands are meaningless, proles.

Fat-loss supplements died when they banned ephedrine HCl for weight-loss uses.

I forgot about those.. What the hell is in those.. I tried one about a year ago and it made me sick... lol

This is the truth. I love LF and LS3, but these supps would not even be here if Ephedra based fat burners were still legal and readily available.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Please refer to APIs when referencing drugs. TYIA

Ephedrine is still legal and readily available. It just can't be marketed towards weight loss. Go to a gas station (and prepare to get raped :()

Lipoflame and Lipostim3

I realize you can get ephedrine from gas stations. I was referring to branded ECA stacks like the original hydroxycut, xenadrine, ripped fuel, etc.

5 hour energy does work bro
just like drinking a cup of coffee gives you a buzz...why wouldn't other such drinks work??
try drinking one when you're tired and see if you can sleep

I have no idea what Lipostims or Lipoflams are. What are their active ingredients? A brand name is only something that is advertised in order to make money. A drug is something with a direct action in the human organism.

Original Hydroxycut stuff was only for GNC trolls who were too dumb to buy ephedrine HCl and caffeine pills for 1/10th the cost. Again, brands and advertising only serve one function: to make money.

I tried one. Felt nothing. It's just vitamins and caffeine. I take a multi with TR caffeine every day.

On a related note, has 5-hour had any problems with that strange banning of "direct" vitamin B6 or whatever? Do they just use "natural" sources like everyone does with the tyrosine ban?

If this stuff speeds your heart rate up like that, is it healthy?

i guess different effects for diff people
always worked for me, same with monster low carb

PURE EVOFLAME™ Evodiamine

Those aren't even fucking drugs.

1,3-Dimethyl-5-amine(Mineral Salt Derivative of Geranium Oil)

A quick literature search shows very little. Appears to not be a notable drug.

Vinpocetine is the only nootropic in there. (Classically, ALC is not a nootropic. It only aquired that moniker after the originials became popular.). No nootropics exhibit stimulatory action, and the better ones are banned in the US (although you can order most). Vasopressin is the only notable nootropic. All the piracetam analoges are akin to boron supplementation in a bodybuilder -- nearly impossible to differentiate clinical results from placebo.

Moreover, it basically looks like the manufacturer threw in a bunch of crap to obfuscate the buyer. I refuse to buy anything with "FancyName(tm) Blend" listed as an ingredient. Nobody knows what the fuck that is.

I'm always mad when someplace doesn't sell SF Rockstar. I hate Monster and Redbull because they don't even list how much caffeine is in their drinks.

I miss the old American BodyBuilder ECA drinks they used to sell at GNCs in the late '90s. Mmmmmm...

Ok bro. I don't sell these. They are very popular here on the boards.

Thats the point Im trying to make Samoth, no one knows what the f*() is in this stuff you buy.. pure garbage

A multi-vitamin is all you need. Your body just urinates all this stuff out and it does little to no good.. Weider started this vitamin scam years ago and now theres a pill for energy and pill for weight loss, etc:

Yeah, I gathered that. I just don't pay attention to something that is only popular because the person(s) selling it are on x board. Just like when Macro was here, his products were OMG GODLY AWESOME EVERYTHING ELSE SUCKS. But take away the advertising, and does the drug/brand live without the overhype? LOL...

If I take something, I know damn well what's in it. (Yeah, okay, not always, lol.) When I buy 25mg ephedrine HCl with 200mg guaifenesin, I know exactly what's in it.

You know you piss away all water-soluble vitamins, right?

Energy pills do work: stuff like dextroamphetamine and ephedrine HCl are quite efficient. Unfortunetly, BIGPHARMA realized long ago the amount of money to be made, and generally takes over any chemical or drug that actually works according to its label. *sigh*

You do know that high extracts % from plants yield the same as drugs right?

A yeast extract was so high that it blew away the cost to use ratio of Lovastantin,
so much so that the drug company sicked the FDA on that company and made it illegal
