Steamed Rice: question about portion?

Hi to everyone! I hope that you all had a great new year's celebration!

I am supposed to eat 1 - 2 cups of steamed rice. :Chef:

My question is that on the calorie charts it read 1 cup but doesn't say if it is 1 cup before being steamed or after. Because if it is after it really looks like a very small portion,

On the other hand what is the general measurement for one cup? I see cups that are 240 ml/g and others that are 260 or 235?? I'm confused.

Can you help me ?

Values are usually for uncooked amounts.

I'd recommend getting a digital scale. Nutrition data is based on a portion of a given weight, for which the corresponding volume measurement is usually only a rough approximation.
 
Whoa nelly - A cup of uncooked rice is too much.

1 cup cooked white rice - long grain is about 200 cals and 44g carbs, 4g pro, .5 g fiber
1 cup cooked brown rice - long grain is about 215 cal and 44g carbs and 5g pro, 3.5 g fiber

You know I don't know - I usually make a cup and a half to two cups of rice (uncooked) at a time and grab what I need and if need be I throw it in the freezer in a ziplock.

I'm going to say that the 1 uncooked is about 4 cups cooked.

Weird I never took note and I eat rice all the time.

Oh and if you decide not to steam the brown rice takes pretty good if you add chicken broth to the water (like 50/50 or more).
 
velvet, i gotta q for you. everyone talks about brown rice being so much healthier from white rice. but looking at the nutritional values you listed for both, they seem to be pretty similar. is there something that im missing like how your body reacts to both??

Well, brown has the higher protein and fiber (bran husk still intact), more potassium, magnesium vit. B6, zinc and white rice has more iron. The fiber in the brown rice will slow down the absorption of carbohydrates.

Honestly - I think you can manipulate your macronutrients to get the same amount of fiber and protein from other sources and it's been my experience that the brown rice bloats me and I still can diet on white rice.

I know there are people that will tell you differently and their experience will differ as well.
