Some Retard in the Gym

While I hate the word "retard" (I work in mental health/mental retardation), the term does apply quite nicely to that idiot!

I would say about 75% of all the people I see in the gym have poor form or cheat themselves in some other way. When they get no gains or their muscles look funky maybe then they will do more research. Even those who do lift with good form are always looking for improvement. I was really f'ing up my back with poor form on squats and I asked a friend of mine (Old schooler about 65 yo) to critique and I have not had problems since (Except when I take cialis) but everyone can always improve form its just the fool that thinks they know everything. Just my opinion. I actually think it is funny watching those I call the swingers. They are the ones that do curls by swinging their body making it look like they can curl a lot. Its pretty entertaining

I was having lower back pain deadlifting. I asked a trainer at my gym who is a NSCA CSCS to critique my form. Well, he did. last week I maxed my dead at 405 (that is good for me) no straps and no belt. I weigh 196. The next day, no back pain, the day after, no lower back pain. I'm not afraid or ashamed to ask for help now.

If i see someone doing something wrong in the gym i will help them usually, if they are humble i will give them a source, but if they are assholes they will have a 50 pound dumbbell flyin their way.

First of all, that is the proper technique on bench if you're lifting for pure health reasons so you can’t really knock him for lifting that way. When you go past parallel it causes your ACJ to separate. This injury is even nicknamed “weight lifters shoulder”. So I can’t knock him if he’s doing it to prevent injury but at the same time he is full of shit if he claims that as his max. It’s not a full rep so it is definitely not a true max. I don’t use this technique but I have other goals.

As far as cheating goes why would anyone be upset with someone for cheating on curls? If anything I would be upset with someone who doesn’t cheat (especially if you lift by yourself). Everyone knows you reach positive failure before negative and the only way you can come close to negative while lifting alone is to cheat it back up for some good negative reps. I love a couple of cheat reps at the end of my curl sets.

A couple of legit “pet peeves” I saw mentioned were 1) When the spotter keeps continuous contact with the bar. Hell, there is no way you can gauge any kind of improvement because it is impossible to tell how much of the weight you are lifting. The slightest touch can make a huge difference. 2) When someone squatting humps the air and calls it a rep. The thing about any lift is you are more injury prone if you do not reach the point where the lever of the lift is parallel to the ground or if you go too far beyond this point. This is even truer with squats.

To be totally honest I usually don't give a shit what anyone else is doing or looks like, although occasionally I might think to myself “what a fuckin’ ass clown!” Normally if someone asks or if there’s a young kid just doing something completely wrong I will give them advice but other than that I mind my own.

IDK why but this is the first guy that ever really bothered/angered me in the gym. I also like to help out the people that have bad form and whatnot, especially the lucky young teenagers who chose to lift at such a young age. Hell, maybe something I say could stick with one of these kids 'till they win some competitions. I like to give good advice but some will never learn.

Dude, looking at your avatar it reminds me of when I used to look up to Tyson as a role model. He's a beast!

today at the gym I noticed these dudes I now refer to as the ambiguously gay duo,who were doing cable side raises and it involved full body movement, I usually dont notice other people but they were right infront of the machine I was on.

I just let people be unless they ask for help as they only hurt themselves and their injuries mean more space in the gym for me

I like to give people advice, but don't get me wrong. As I said before I stay to myself while training, but once in awhile (about once every two weeks) I'll just help someone out and it makes me feel better.
