Sleep question

Maybe someone around here can shed some light on a problem I have. Good quality sleep, I haven't had any for a long time.

I spoke to my doctor about it and we both agree We don't think it is a sleeping disorder because I have no problem getting to sleep at night, My problem lies in staying asleep. My eyes pop open at everynight at least 2 times per night I am wide awake for no reason.

Would working out late in the evening have something to do with my brain not resting completly at night. I do take thermogenic supplements but usually no later than 3pm. And even when I am off of them (got off for about 6months straight) the problem is still there.

My doctor tried me on two prescriptions and neither worked I tried paxil and effexor. Does anyone have any suggestion or comment on what can be causing this issue?

Any help would do, I am at wits end and are willing to do just about anything.

My boyfriend was having the same problem. We ended up going to the herb shop and got some melatonin (spelling?). We also figured out that the ones you swallow do not work very well. But they make some that you place under your tongue and let them dissolve. They have a peppermint taste and they work GREAT!! You might want to try that.

I hear ya Brick, But this has been going on for about 5 years now and I ain't gettin any younger, I need more sleep now than ever espically with what I expect to do all day long. It may be anxiety, , I am not sure.

oicu812 (cute name) I will check that out. thanks

Lovemymuscle, I use melatonin once in a while as well. 3mg ought to do the trick but I wouldn't suggest using it too often or it could disrupt your sleep when you don't take it. What I do find that helps me a great deal is ZMA. It's not that it makes me sleepy like melatonin but it helps me sleep right through the night. I use to wake up so frequently, I never felt rested the next day. I've got to be honest with you, between the two of them ZMA which I take every evening and Melatonin, i use when I'm really revved from an evening workout, they've really helped me a lot. Holy shit, was that a run on sentence....hehehehe
Give ZMA a shot first and if you find it doesn't help enough, pick up some 3mg Melatonin. You won't regret it!:)

Thanks Fyre. I think the ZMA would be suitable for me being I never have a problem getting to sleep, Just staying asleep.

Thanks

5-HTP and valerian will help you relax and have a better night

Valerian can be helpful. I don't get nearly the amount of sleep that most people do, but I've just come to accept it as "my norm." My father was this way too. And keep in mind that as most people get older they require less sleep. If your body doesn't require as much sleep as others why fight it? Maybe you could try pushing your bedtime back an hour or two to make sure you're actually tired enough to sleep through the night.

MrsPuddles, where do I purchase 5-HTP and valerian ?

I started the melatonin two days ago... The first night I only took one 3mg tablet and it didn't really make a difference. But last night I took 6mg, I think I took them too late because I still woke up around 12:00 am but after that I was out... When I woke up this morning at 5:00am I felt like I had been in a deep sleep, It felt really refreshing, I will try to take it earlier tonight. I usually get to bed around 10:30 p.m. but I last night I didn't take it till about 9:30 tonight I will take it 2 hours before.

Thanks

I think part of the deal with melatonin is to give it some time, like a few weeks. Melatonin is a hormone, and if you've been deficient for while, it'll take some time for your body to re-regulate its sleep cycle.
