skull crushers

I don't even perform the so called skull crushers. I perform lying or incline french presses. I let the bar travel behind my head for a fuller range of motion. I feel that the stress is directed on the long head of the tricep.

i do a variation of these as my "skullcrushers". lower the bar down not to my forehead (because this causes my elbows to move) but to my hairline. this keeps my elbows pointed to the ceiling. forearm length will dictate where exactly someone lowers to though. if someone has short forearms, then forehead or eyebrows are more applicable, longer arms need to go hairline or above.

only problem with french presses are that you use alot of lat out of the bottom. the stretch is great for the long head but this becomes a compound movement of sorts with lat involvement. another way you can do these are starting off with the bar over held above your forehead or even higher and come down to the crown of your head. keeping the elbows stabilized. tons of variations....all of which hurt nicely. hehe.

Palms facing in, you mean? I have a mental picture of me dropping lots of weight directly on my face ... Haha.

LOL... no shit, I'll have to get one of those squat pad thingys and put it in my face. :)

I think it definitely helps to lower the bar to your hairline instead of your nose... i find that i am able to keep my form much better that way.

Like bignate said...it's really a matter of forearm length that dictates where the bars lowers...so long as you keep your elbows pointed straight up and don'r use any shoulder motion. I see too many people extending the bar behind their head which turns it into more of a pull-over...a compound move of sorts. Isolation is the point of skulls.

The bar hits the top of my head... but that is because my elbows are pointing more diagonally backward... they still never move, but it is much harder to do, and I feel, hits the tris more.

I do my skullcrushers on the smith machine. I REALLY love em.

I found that when forcing out the last few reps, it is harder to cheat.

You may be joking and I may be gullible, but how is it possible to do skull crushers on a smith machine or why would you want too?
