skippy natural pb

Not sure if this is old news or not, but I was in the grocery store the other night and noticed Skippy put out their version of natural peanutbutter. It looks identical to regular pb (no oil separation at the top) and they're claiming you don't need to stir it. I checked the ingredients and sure enough it's peanuts, salt, etc... I picked up a jar and it's pretty dang good. Like I said, there's no oil separation and it spreads as easy as regular pb.

As far as I can tell, the only catch is there's some added sugar... not sure how much, but I think it's a gram or two per serving.

Has anyone else tried this? I'd never seen it before the other night.

the key is the etc... can you get a list of the ingredients?

the way the normally avoid the separation of fat is by adding hydrogenated oil (makes evil sign)... how much of it? well, I think I remember you need to have at least 90% peanuts to be called Peanut butter... the other 10% is game.

How much % you need to be called ANPB? well, its got to be very close to 100, since it is suposed to be only peanuts and salt (I personally didn't like the flavor of ANPB)

I found the info

How many times have you tried it? I only ask because in my experience everyone who has had it at least a few times agrees, not only that it's absolutely amazing, but it's definitely better than regular pb.

That's interesting. The Skippy I buy does separate a lot. From what you just wrote, that would indicate a good-quality PB.

Yep, I know it is way better than PB... so much better than once can get you fat and the other can help you in a diet... I tried for a full jar... it was an ordeal all the way through. Just not my thing... maybe the one I had was a lame brand (one of the no-name organic local products)

Once you get used to natural peanut butter, the regular stuff will taste like crap to you. Waaaayyy too sweet, and nasty.

doesn't that new Skippy have Palm Oil? if so that's why it doesn't seperate. It it semi solid in it's natural state and doesn't need to be hydrogenated and can be used as a stabilizer.

That's it - palm oil.

What do we know about palm oil? Is it just as bad as partially-hydrogenated oil?
