Shrugs

I was wondering, has anyone ever used the standing calf machine for shoulder shrugs?
Will it work your traps just as well as dumbell shrugs. I find that I can shrug more weight on the machine than I can pick up. I'd like to hear anyones opinion.

try using straps for your shrugs.

Not necessarily the weight that will make your traps grow, but the number of reps.

Try dropsetting them.

Worked for me

Don't do it. I listed the reasons why in another thread. Simply too many factors make shrugging with the load on top a bad idea.

It's hard to get a decent range of motion on shrugs, even with dbs or a bar. If your standing calf machine is anything like the one I use, the pads sit to high on your shoulders to allow for much movement.

I dont' think it's a good alternative. I'd stick to dbs.

i wouldnt try them but something you may want to try is kneeling shrugs, ive been doing them lately and they murder the traps

Stick with the basics. If you shrug more than you can lift try a smith machine so you don't have to pull off the floor. Straps work to. Deadlifts are good for traps as well and would help you to be able to get the weight off the floor after a while.

What the fuck are kneeling shrugs????

your on your knees with db's in each hand and you shrug,i feel it works traps more then if i was standing, its harder to use ur back or you fall over,so if ur take back out of the equation its all traps
