She's having a baby

Well folks.. after living a life of training for years and years years, I 've stopped to have a baby. I am due in January. I went from superchamp to little exercise since this kid is sapping my energy!! I am hoping once I get committed after labour that the body does have a "memory" and since I'll be off work I'll have time to devote to the baby and to a routine. I have no idea how long this will take. I am eating healthy right now and enjoying the carbs while i'm pregant. ;) If I breastfeed, then I've been warned against highprotein dieting but i'm not sure if this is believable since alot of people are against high protein anything even before I was pregnant but this type of diet definetly showed results on my body back then.

anyhow, I just wanted to find out (for some inspiration I guess) if any of you have kids already and made a comeback to your body or if having abs again is only a dream. any tips greatly appreciated!!

Congrats on the baby!! We've got a few women on here who have a bun in the oven.......what's in the water around here?? LOL

I am due in January also :) Our first - a girl. Congrats!

There are quite a few ladies here who have had children, then went on to compete, or just transform their bodies into something amazing. Frisky, HabitualHealth come to mind right away - although I know there are more. Those two are current posters, but there have been people in the past (that don't post anymore) that have successfully gotten abs and/or gotten very lean after children - BrickGirl is the one I am thinking of specifically.

I know in Frisky's case, she was never SUPER LEAN, but even while PG< she continued to eat healthy and stay active. SHe never "let herself go" while PG. This helped her retain a pre-PG body - but she never tried to get super lean until recently - and that worked out very well for her. You can check out her pics here - her avitar and I think there are some in her gallery. Her children (2) are a little older - I think around 4th grade or so.

As for HabitualHealth - I know she gained a lot of weight when PG. I am NOT saying she "let herself go", some women just gain more than others. I think she gained in the ballpark of 60lbs (someone correct me?). SHe struggled with her weight for a little bit, but has COMPLETELY transformed her body into something stunning. SHe has not competed, but she has done a few photo shoots and looks great. I do not think she is "super cut" or ultra lean (like competition lean) - but she is defined and tight. She looks great. I am not sure how old her child is - I think around toddler-age.

While BF'ing, you have to remember everything YOU eat, the baby eats. The key is going to be a balanced diet. Yes, you can go heavier on the protein, but you MUST have a balance in there. There is NO reason you cannot eat CLEAN when BF'ing - even if it is higher carb than normal. If the food is CLEAN, then you are 10 steps ahead. But also remember that a BF'ing woman needs approximately 500 calories extra per day to sistain a good milk supply and nourish the baby. BF'ing is NOT a time to cut back on calories or restrict a diet.

A PG woman only needs approxiamtely 200-300 extra calories per day. It is NOT a time to go hog-wild and eat everything. (not that I am implying you have)

Thanks! just the type of response I wanted to hear. I've always enjoyed a challenge so it will be a good challenge in the new year to see how to reshape myfigure. I am eating well now, but plan to eat clean once the baby is born. I am not eating trans fats or other crap that would go to my baby. but I do cave into treats like frozen yogurt and pasta on occasion. otherwise I'm sticking healthy but definetly not as clean as my diet has been while on a training regimine.

Daisy's right. I turned quite plump when I had my daughter who is now 4. 60lbs is actually low balling it on the lb-age scale. Right around 70lbs...give or take. Feb of this year I joined EF and really put together a great workout routine, mealplan, and gained an incredible amount of encouragement/motivation/support to help me drop now over 50lbs going from 34 to 13% BF. Plan on competing next year...persuing the modeling route...and actually was just hired on as the PT Director for body of change/fitness expectations here in atlanta. So things are definitely looking up. You having the knowledge and experience going into your pregnancy will really help you out.

I think you can do a search on here for my before/after pics (or search threads i started) ...i should update them...but my avi pic is from mid october...so yes, you can definitely find your abs again after the baby. :) This is actually the leanest I've ever been. I never saw abs popping through pre-prego. So no worries, enjoy your pregnancy to the fullest. I had an emotionally and physically rough pregnancy which I think really contributed to my out of control weight gain.

Plus, i couldn't put down ben & jerry's. :worried:

Congrats on the pregnancy, mommy!

Yep I have three lovely daughters....ages 4, 6 and 8. It is all about taking care of yourself while pregnant and losing it all after before getting pregnant again! I'm glad I am done! Congrats!!

Yes you can have abs again. I have had three kids now aged 7, 4, 3. I never had abs before and have always been on the heavy side. I had trained for the last 12 mths and was amazed at the changes in my body. I am now 28 weeks pregnant with my 4th and feel better than ever compared to my others and have managed to only gained 5kgs or 11lbs and still weigh less now than before I started training, and still at times can see my upper abs still present.
So what I'm saying is don't feel disheartened you will look fab if not better post baby.
Good luck and congratulations.
