Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & CA Bound

Made it to LA yesterday -- loong flight - I traded my aisle seat w/ a guy & his wife & their little kid (2 yrs old) so at least one of the parents could sit w/ the kid. So I end up next to the skinny sarcastic guy & the fat smelly guy for 4 1/2 hrs. Ugh. But it was a nice boring flight and got in at noon. Trained & went out for dinner last nite.

Training - was same as yesterday -- strong lifts, ATF squats, 2 x 45 plate hammer strength rows. Very happy :)

Setting up meetings today.

And dammit, I turned 41. Shit. I guess at least I can say I survived 40...

Best lookin' 41 yr old in the gym tho!

Well, I survived the 41st.... Actually today was very productive all around. It started out w/ no one remembering my bday. OK I can live w/ that, I didnt' broadcast it. Then I send a few emails to get some response on some ihterviews I was suppsoed to hear about today out here so I can set up any travel next week. Nothing. Then things start to pick up.

10 am: Hit the gym
- 5 min cardio warmup
- I'm introduced to Stan Mc Quay (popular amateur BB who "almost" worked with us on my last job - but I don't mention that because it was just one of the many fiascos.
- walking lunges: 20/50 x 4
- leg extension: 90/12 x 3
- 1 leg leg press: 45/12 x 3
- 45 min step mill

12 noon - return home, take a shower, head out to the Bob Hope (Burbank) Airport to pick up another guy

1 pm
- get a call from a realtor going thru my house -- yay! Buy the fucker while you're there! (Hopefully the cat didn't barf on the floor this morning....)
- I call the guy i'm supposed to hear about an interview from - he says he got my email but is leaving work early today so probably have to wait until Monday to hear back.
- I set up an appt on Monday for an interview w/ a headhunter here in LA

2 pm - Lunch at Brent's Deli

3 pm -Get a call from another company up in the Bay Area for an interview but have to wait until Monday to get a day / time scheduled to meet face-to-face - hopefully Thurs or Fri next week so I'll have a day or two to arrange a flight up there

4 pm - head for Nordstrom's for the semi-annual sale & drop $400 on a new interview suit for Monday. Also am told that its cold where the company is so better to buy something w/ pants so a little warmer. (Weird - cold in CA??)

8 pm - Sushi!

9:30 pm - out for drinks. First place we stop w/ gigantic margaritas has a "bad vibe" according to the lady cop who is w/ us. So we go to a microbrewery - figures I order 2 capt & diet cokes - nothing too wild. Then we get a jumbo cookie + vanilla ice cream & a candle. The dreaded singing of "Happy Bday" and then continue drinking. Left around 12:30 pm.

Now : sleep & get up early for a bike show in Long Beach tomorrow! Tomorrow nite, "clothing optional" pool party somewhere in LA. (Does this sound more exciting than Atlanta or what???) I will be wearing clothes btw. And patiently waiting to get a charity text from someone at Treil's show w/ results! Good luck hun!

Happy Birthday...Now I get it...You are going to the pool party in your Birthday suit! LMAO...Seeeeeeeeeeexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Hope you had a best birthday!
I loved this for your pArtY....

Sass, sounds like you're doing a little better on the west coast than down with those "cuntry boyz"! lol

Treils show went great - have you're # somewhere, but can't find it at the moment or I would have sent you a phone pic or two.

Hope you're having a great time out there and good luck with the job hunt!

Hey girls & shadow ! LOL the clothing optional party stayed all "clothing". Didn't get too wild although someone threw up in the pool and there was porn playing on all the flat screen tvs in the house. It was fun tho. Drank some, but thankfully the bartender was watering down the drinks. Today was some running around doing errands & then picking up my friend's nephews & taking them to see "Cars". Really cute!

Tomorrow starts the interview stuff & the waiting for phone calls for the next interviews & determine where I need to fly to next. I dropped some cash on a new interview suit on Friday at the Nordstrom's sale so assuming I don't destroy the suit by sweating too much, I should be ok tomorrow. I believe I will be renting a car w/ GPS in it so I dont' get lost in a bad neighborhood going to Wilshire Blvd.

Right now I'm just tired & need to get my sheeeit organized.

Good Luck on interviews! Hope you find what you are looking for! Good idea about the GPS...or maybe you could satrt a new movie vs. Pretty Woman!
Have a great day!

Hey girlie good luck on the interviews!!!! Not like you need it ;)

Didn't anyone start a Happy Birthday thread for you?!?!?!?! (HERE not in C & C)

Happy belated 41st Sassy!!! (her bday was the 14th for those that didn't know)

You were greatly missed... best of luck with the interviews ... :)

:elephant: :mommakin: :laugh2: :insane: :dance2:

Hope you get some good feedback from that interview as well Sassy.

You're smart. It would be a privilege for them to have you.

Awwww thx alex, florencia, and all you great ef ladies!

Interviews:
- headhunter - went well but not a job interview - they shop my resume to their clients ... so I guess await responses.
- potential interview in San Diego - passed on my resume
- potential interview in San Fran - still waiting to hear back from the hiring mgr.

At this point, talked to lots of people about some ideas but not real jobs. Not sure of the next step right now. Guess I gotta figure that one out tomorrow before 11 am checkout.

And that's about all I know right now...

New day, new challenge, new opportunity!

Well I'll keep ya in my thoughts/prayers and hopefully one of those "ideas" will turn into something great for ya :D :rose:

Thx GG & sbt :)

Update - flew to Portland yesterday. No response from these damn companies. Today I don't want to talk about outside of hitting the gym. And obviously I can't sleep right now.

Thx SBT! You know the trip I took had some real frustrations in it, particularly when an HR Dept calls you w/ interest in your background, but somehow the actual interview doesn't occur when you are able to be there for a face-to-face. However, I will continue to contact these people and additional leads. I did get to see the area and get a feel for things. I also was able to get a more focused mindset on the whole process. But it can get really overwhelming as well. The message of the trip is to stay focused on my goals and continue to talk to people.

That is a big pain in the neck some time. Last time I was applying I'd get calls from HR asking a few questions regarding why I was applying and when I would be available. Never got a sit down interview after that. Sometimes I think it pays to be somewhat pushy and ask them when would be a good time to meet. Then throw out some random times and dates. So much of it is who you know too. A couple of my friends barely made it out of college, have no M.A. at all, and have really good jobs based on some good networking from what I've heard. Don't worry. With each experience you learn and grow better as a person.

That is the one silver lining in each cloud --- you never "lose" from your experiences, no matter how they end up. If you don't learn from them, then you are wasting your time, but if you do, then its a win.

OK, granted I spent most of the time from Friday noon until Saturday noon either in airports or traveling in 105 degree weather w/ no A/C, I slept until around noon today.

Diet:
Meal 1: 12 noon
1 whole egg + 4 egg whites
1/2 c oatmeal + 1 scoop protein mix

Meal 2: 3pm
bag of left over trail mix from the trip home

Meal 3: 8 pm
4 pieces of sushi
8 slices of tuna rolls

Damn I want a glass of wine so bad I can taste it but they don't sell liquor on Sundays here and I brought my whole stash down to the 'rents condo.

Training:
6 min elliptical warm up
10 min dynamic warm up
- hi knee run
- butt kick run
- side step left & right
- walking side kick (a la karate class)

I'm surrounded w/ good karma today -- jettisoned the last of the bad stuff somewhere over Kansas on the trip home...

Just waiting for the lunch hour to get over so I can make a few calls re: jobz.

My training protocol is a 3x/week core lifting + cardio. Today is one of the cardio only days & I know its going to drive me nutz when I get to the gym. So I'm going to think about some stuff to do on these off days. Abs are definitely on the list. I should probably reinvigorate the pilates classes as well....

Happy Monday to us all!

24 July 2006 (Monday)

Diet:
Meal 1: 8 am
1/2 c oatmeal + 1/2 scoop protein mix
1 whole egg + 4 egg whites

LOTSA COFFEE!

Meal 2: 12 noon
2 scoops protein mix + 1 tbsp NPB + water = goo

Meal 3: 4 pm (had to cook the chicken so sorta late today)
4 oz chicken breast
2 c spinach & broccoli
2 tbsp low carb vinaigrette

Meal 4: 8 pm
4 sushi summer rolls (no rice, pulled out the avocado) - serious sushi kick this week!
1/4 c blueberries

Meal 5: 11 pm
1 1/2 scoop protein mix + 1/2 c tofu - mush all together = lumpy goo

Training:

AM: 30 min precor (empty stomach)

PM: cardio & abs
5 min elliptical
Abs: spent most of the time trying to get a good burn -- no damn roman chair at my gym...
- decline abs (these sucked because the decline bench sucks and its a fight to not use more hip flexor than abs): 25/5 (5 count hold at mid point) x 5
- fitball cable crunches: 80/25 x 3 + 0 wt/25 x 3
- fitball upper ab crunches: 30/25 x 3 + 0 wt/25 x 3
- hanging abs: 0/15 left: 0/15 right: 0/15 - this was a big deal - I haven't been able to do these w/o my lower back spazzing out immediately -- this means my core strength is coming back!
Pull ups:
- narrow grip: bodywt/8
- med grip: bodywt/8
- wide grip: bodywt/5
- med grip: bodywt/7
- narrow grip: bodywt/8

Cardio: 20 min stepper + 25 min recumbant bike

Had to come check out the "goo" for today :lmao: I know meal one sounds yummy... I think I shall be stealing it tomorrow morning

:wavey:

The goo is great - just enough water to make "goo" and quick as hell. I've just lost my stomach for protein shakes and I get stomach aches from all the liquid sometimes. Goo is fairly inert.

Stretch

I'm liking this full body training EOD! No soreness, though the really ass-kicking exercises are not at remotely heavy weights yet -- all about form & stability right now. I'm feelings those pull-ups tho. The biggest stinker is that I get pinches in my wrists with the grip tho. I have the same problem on the assisted pull-up & lat pull downs.

HOT DAMN! The guy from a particularly attractive position in San Fran finally contacted me to schedule a phone interview next Friday! (And 10 days to research the company...!)

OK, this comes from my oldest & bestest friend on the planet who is the only one on the planet who still sends me goofy email crap (including those damn email chain letters....UGH.):

He is a cutie! Ana Sofia is sad...broke up with her boyfriend...he's 15 and she's heart broken...

Aww! Sass, he looks so similar to my Cedez girl (I just had her put down about 3 weeks ago), I just flipped when I looked at the pic. He has got gorgeous eyes!

Awww :( I dread that day. CC is around 14 yrs old. I got him the week before Hurricane Andrew hit Miami - we rode out the storm together. I'm sure he was sleeping through the whole thing. Now he's just fat & happy.

Tonite he discovered that out the back door is a whole world of grass for him to chew on & then yak up on my carpet. It took me 3 hrs for him to stop whining to go out the basement door - him pawing the horizontal blinds to go out - OMG, how ANNOYING! He's a persistent little shit.

Best of wisheson the interview! Tell me the secret to so many pull ups!

Thx Flor! Honestly the biggest diff has been training 3x/week vs 6. Making a HYUGE difference in a lot of stuff.

Nice little tidbit tonite - my realtor called & one of the ladies who came through the house yesterday is contacting him for the disclosure documentation which is a precursor to an offer. I guess she's driving around to get a feel for how easy to get to/from work, etc. But wohoo....! We'll see what happens in the next few days...

Off to the gym so I can put my nervous excitement somewhere!

Being patient here in the middle of a stay at home cold!

Bummer. That's where I opt to just load up on cold medicine & sleep!

Today the interested lady requested a summary of my monthly utility costs over the last yr - that means she's checking her budget....

* fingers crossed *

I went to the chiro today to see what's up w/ my knee -- weird feeling like it wants to flop around or somethign on the back of the knee. So its a little inflamed and apparently I stressed the muscles that work the contraction on the lying leg curl. I recall feeling that the other day. So its essentially just like knots in your back - like a locked up muscle spasm. A little ultrasound, ice it the next couple nights and stay off the leg curl for a while.

I've been having a problem, if I'm not careful, with the back of my right knee popping. I make the conscious effort NOT to fully extend it - ever - and that seems to help. How did yours start? Was it popping at all?

I'm guessing its just another result of heavier lifting & constantly training (and age...) The actual lock up has only happened twice but its scary to be alone in your house and you can't stand up. Its as simple as just a strained muscle so I'll just take care of it. Of course those little strains never seem to go completely away, so you just adjust life around it. I've switched over to more basic / core training and dropped the weights some. That will help. Just focus on letting my whole body work together instead of worknig the shit out each muscle group. Never had problems like this before, ever.
